Hi guys,
I have a 1996 Fiat Coupe 1,8 16v and lately I have some problem to start it, I think it’s something electronic. One week ago the car didn’t start, turning the key from MAR to AVV nothing happens, there’s no click or sound. At first I thought it could have been the starter, but yesterday the car started again, and today I have the same problem. I have to tell that the Fiat Code light in the master panel is always on and it was long time I had to start the car putting the code manually using the gas pedal. Also the spark plugs are brand new and fuses are ok. I don’t know what to think anymore, could be the ignition or even worse the ECU. Unfortunately I am in Portugal and even FIAT here has no idea about that, so I’d like to know if anybody knows anything or had this problem in the past, before to bring the car to a car electrician. Thank you in advance :)

There's a guy just posted on the Barchetta forum with a similar problem (B has same code system) New antenna for the code box fitted. Problem solved, €20 for the part and €90 labour.

Thank you Rustbucket, I don't know if a code problem could prevent the system even from sending an electric impulse to the starter, but I'll talk with a car electrician about that too and let's see what happens. It's weird because I can still put the code manually but when I switch to AVV position nothing happens, like when your battery is totally flat. I'd love to remove the stupid immobilizer once and for all, more than an anti theft system it looks like a Fiat way to make extra money out of costumers...
