Have just bought a new stereo. When connected to the bravo iso connector it wont power on. Do I need to take a live feed from elsewhere?. Also, might sound stupid but do I need to earth it ?

:confused:i have just checked and the head unit is definately getting 12v on the red wire, and earth is fine
the yellow 12v battery wire is not getting anything
i would normally put this down to a faulty head unit, but earlier a got one from halfords, plugged it in , and again , nothing
hope someone can shed some light on this

Earth yes, that is why it was meant...Did the unit you took out to replace work or not on the same connector?

hi easterly.
i know absolutely nothing about how the canbus operates,
but i assumed that as the live is constant, and is showing 12v up to the new headunit (on my multimeter) that the new unit should operate
i didnt think a new off-the-shelf hu would care about anything but recieving the power supply...or am i missng something?
thanks, chris

does this mean hat the yellow (12v battery) should be permanent live and the red switched?
i have no problem splicing the wires, just like to know before i start

No, you're best wiring it as intended, if you make them both permanent live, depending upon the head unit, you'll start getting a flat battery when the car is sitting.

thanks for your help most easerly
have just tried unit with a live feed to both red and yellow and the unit operates :)
one more question if i may, will the battery still drain if i turn off the unit when leaving the car? my understanding (whith may be wrong!) is that it is only using power to retain presets etc

It depends upon the head unit, they shouldn't, but a fair few do, hence saying you might end up getting a flat battery. Could always risk it and try.

i connected both the red and yellow on the stereo loom to the red (constant live) on the fiat loom
the stereo works pefect, you just have to manually switch it off when leaving the car:)

I went right down to the 12v cigarette connector. It switches off/on with the engine.

The problem is your head unit doesn't support it. Most after market (or even OEM) don't.
