No not changed just topped up, haha see how much Ive already learnt? Ill have to change it, where can I discard the used oil btw?

your local recycling station should have a area for oil and oil filters.
personally i just empty them into large containers and store em to save going back and forth lots of times for only one oil change

I got no big containers, Ill just get a big tub think its 3.5 litres or something which shouldnt be too hard to find. What would you guys suggest 10w40 or 15w40??
Either will do perfectly. Get a quality semi synthetic. If you have a local GM dealer check the price of their oils, there are quite often deals being done.
make sure the engine is warm before you drop the oil out.

2 litre pop bottles work fine just stand em up so it doesn't leek out

I was gonna go check Halfords and I think there is a Fiat garage round here somewhere. Is it better to buy an oil filter off the net or in person, price and quality wise.

General Motors, yup. Vauxhall, Opel or Chevrolet.

cool when I get some cash Ill buy one and some oil and get moving XD You said about the fuel filter too? I read the Haynes and its essentially the same procedure except I get sprayed with petrol. Correct?

Yup, wear old clothes and no smoking. Do it first thing in the morning before car started, don't even turn on the ignition.

seeing as were on about petrol here is there an easy way to drain out hte petrol tank and the fuel line upto the injector?

If you do it after a night's inactivity there will be no pressure in the system.
Make sure both clips are loose and that the pipe joiners are free from the filter, ie the filter spins freely.
Then quickly remove and refit the filter.

HOPEFULLY 1 last question
Fluffy has 4 types of oil filters: turbo (cheapest), 1108 (next cheapest), 1242 (next next cheapest) and 899 (most expensive). However they all look the same but ahve different part codes, should I play it safe and get the 899 one or will the 1108 one fit?

Lighter weight oil can help with ticking hydraulic tappets. I have no experience with this particular engine but in general the heavier oil only properly fills the tappet when it's warm and thin, hence why it makes a racket when cold. If you start with an oil that's thinner when cold (the first part of the number is lower, 10W XXX as opposed to 15W XXX) then it may solve the problem. Also an oil flush may help clear whatever is making it stick, some people swear by TruBlu (on ebay). I've used it but it didn't make any difference to me as my tappet was broken.
You can identify which tappet is making the noise by holding a screwdriver to the valve/cam cover and with the engine running "listenting" to the plastic end. Move the screwdriver along the valve cover and the tapping should get really loud when you find the offending tappet. Chances are you will narrow down to one cylinder so two potential tappets.

wow thanks for the tips I may end up changing the tappets, rallycinq didnt you say something about Uno tappets or punto? cant remember Ill find the post XD For now Im just gonna change the oil and filter, fuel filter, coolant, possibly brakes, rejig the clutch cos its a tad stiff and adjust the handbrake.

Tappets are only going to be needed when you can't hear yourself think while driving.
Live with the noise, it may get a lot better when you change the oil, and spend what little money you have getting it running as smoothly as possible.
That way you save on fuel and save on wear.
Don't ignore brakes either. Make sure the handbrake works, follow the guides in here, and make sure the front wheels turn smoothly by hand, you don't want a sticky caliper destroying your fuel consumption.

Yea the tappets are fine by that example then... I should be getting the stands this week then by friday I should have some money and can get the filters and oil. Should I change the spark plugs too do you reckon?

Yea the tappets are fine by that example then...
Take them out, make sure the bottom electrode is intact, if it all looks OK, regap and refit.
