2016 Fiat 500X 2.4L automatic--new battery in fob--new battery in car--fob won't start the engine--pressing the ignition/start button won't start the engine--ignition comes on but no cranking or starting--any help would be appreciated, Greg

Don't know what inhibitor is. Gearbox???? Car is an automatic. Will need explanation thanks, Greg.

To safeguard operation

There will be a mode where the motor is permitted to crank..

And other gearbox modes where the motor cannot crank

Maybe the starter is Inhibited..

Not a Starter fault.. but a safety system stopping its operation

Didn't think it is a faulty starter. It's likely to be an electrical problem. There must be a relay or something that needs to be reset/replaced.

Does the car need to be in "P" and/or the footbrake applied for it to crank? The gear position sensor on the gearbox could be knackered or the brake switch.

If the brake lights don't come on if the ignition is on and the brakes applied then that's an easy/free test for the pedal switch.

The car may show the gear position on one of the menu options (I'm not familiar with the auto's). If it doesn't say "P" when the gear lever is in "P" then that is also a good/free test.
