Hi,

Today the partners 500x engine warning light came on. There is little to no accelaration which makes me think the turbo is gone. Any suggestions appreciated. I have ordered a fault scanner which arrives tomo.

Opening the hood not sure if anything is out of place as per below. Diesel 500x approx 47K miles 2016.

Thanks

Chances are it’s not the turbo gone, sounds to me like it’s picked up on a fault and gone into limp mode to protect the engine. Not had any plooms of smoke have you? As long as the code reader you’ve ordered is up to the job it should put you right

Thanks - no smoke

The code on the reader is P0520 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/ Switch circuit - anyone know what this is? (plenty of oil in car/ running temp normal)

Have to taken it to a mechanic he has cleared the fault codes off but they have returned- mechanic is unsure what to do- any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Surely you’d start by replacing the sensor? And check wiring to and around said switch. If it was actually low oil pressure you’d have had an oil can symbol (or whatever low pressure warning the 500x has) That’s where I’d start anyway. Somebody else might have another idea?

The mechanic reported seeing other fault codes (not oil pressure sensor related) and cleared them off- though this is the only 1 I have seen. He suggested the issue could be more electrical then mechanical. Going to book it into the local dealers and see what they say.

Have you had it read since they were cleared to see which codes returned? Some of them could have been old uncleared rectified faults

yeh the same as before- P0520 Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/ Switch circuit
So no other faults returned? If that’s the case then get your mechanic to change the switch, got to be cheaper than main dealer. Probably be £50 to open the bonnet and look at the engine!

Thanks- still ot 100% sure this is the problem given the other fault codes that have appeared.

See your point but thought you said the other faults hadn’t reappeared? If so and it’s gone back into limp mode then that’s the main problem. Any oil pressure fault of any kind is going to make a modern engine go into limp mode to minimize damage. And as i said do know for sure the other codes weren’t just stored old codes?

THey havent ..yet, still think for peace of mind i`l book it into dealer and see what they say- though you could still be right.

Hey it’s your car and your money at the end of the day. Hope they sort it for you and don’t charge you stupid money for it! Whereabouts in the country are you as someone on here may be able to recommend a Fiat specialist near you rather than the dealer option. Just a thought. Please keep us updated when you have some news 🙂

This might help..

Spoke too soon- issue back- engine waring light on, same fault code as before- engine in limp mode. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Well the official info for this P0520 on the 1.4 Multiair is:

334 - 500X 1.4 Turbo MultiAir Oil pressure switch (Signal incorrect
after event) P0520-00

Sadly there are no normal diagnostic charts for this error code. Title only and blank sheet!

If new sensor then probably a wiring problem. Check the sensor wires and nearby connector. You could also try popping and engine ECU connectors and using some switch clean/lubricate fluid. Disconnect the battery -ve first though.
