General Next Panda Adventure......

I know of a company who uses Phoenix shipping on a regular basis (Barn Hill Minis, who export Classic Minis to the USA from Southampton to New Jersey). They put 4 minis in a 40 foot containers with spares :) Remove all mirrors etc before you send the car off and refit them afterwards. That includes stuff like gearknobs :)

If Sylvia is to go through the emission test's how the hell will it pass? Panda's run at about 1.5-2% CO unless you fit a cat.

Sylvia dosent have to pass ANY test to get into america as she is a Tourist Car.

If would only be after 12 mths constant use in the states that I'd have to pass Type Approval.

If I'm putting money and time into Sylvia, NO SHES NOT being left there. I spoke to MS today and I'm having a new timing belt put on her at my cost. After that she needs 2 front dampers and an exhaust. All being well either the end of this week or next week we are fitting a fuel regulator to Sylvia as we're convinced shes getting to much fuel and flooding herself. I might fit the extra fuel pump as well as a spare so the 2 of them will be side to side and if one breaks all you have to do is put the fuel lines onto the other.
For comfort I'm looking into fitting Fiat Coupe seats. One possbility is to fit Fiat Cinq Sporting seats if I can't modify the Coupe seats.
I have a few other little plans for making Sylvia ready for her next adventure. At least we have time to iron out all the bugs this time.

Awww.... Uncle Stu is looking after his baby!
But it's not what you said on Page2 of this thread!!!!

I've also been thinking, rather than you taking Juppy and running the risk of getting him damaged, and because I won't be able to go, would you not take Sylvia. If worst senario happens and you lose Sylvia through fire or pestilence theres still a story in it for the club.

Don't worry, I'm not taking her all that way to leave her out there. As long as we fully test the car before we'll be ok.

Hmm yes I did say that but I also said fire and pestalence, so broken engine and gearbox doesn't count
If Ms and myself can get Sylvia up and running in the next couple of weeks then I will extensively test drive her befroe July. It is july your planning on going isn't it?

Jim have you noticed that the Americans have suddenly gone quiet on their site:eek:

To be honest they probably think we're full of it... Like really, who'd spend a grand shipping a £100 car that's famous for it's unreliability half way round the world? The Internet is full of Walter Mitty's (there's a few on here:p). But I'm a fully paid up member of FLU so they'll get a gunk when we pay the deposit on the weekend meet:D (its a couple of hundred dollars cause of accomodations)

I got another mail back from Emma today with some questions answered so we need to ship late June/1st July.

On the Sunday 16th July there having an autotest and I think we should enter as it's a matter of national pride here!!!:D

Bugger, that clashes with my holidays! Stu, you'd better learn how to update the website quick!

Updates are not going to be as thick and fast as last year cause the americans run GSM 850/1900 and CDMA AMPS TDMA WCDMA and there is no phone that runs on all those systems. (We use GSM 900/1800) So while I'm trying to dodge the tornados in tornado alley there won't be much coverage:(

That's a good thing. My head was turned last year, flipping texts every 5 minutes! :)

We're hoping that this year there won't be any NEED to send so many messages like

"We've been hijacked"

"We've broke down" (repeat about a millon times)

"We've lost the exhaust" (repeat 3 times)

"We're lost.. I've just seen some penguins"

etc...

Jim

Mmmmm... We'll try not to:eek:

Anyway, trying to catch up with FiatAmerica which is a San Francisco fiat club and see if they want to meet us there.

I can see it now... "You came here in a WHAT?"
