20v (non Turbo) Coupe, or Bravo HGT?

N/A coop ... sound fantastic when you boot it, especially the yellow ones :slayer: But then I'm biased... ;)

If you get a well maintained one that's had the belt changed etc, I can't believe that they cost that much more to maintain than the HGT ... being in NW Kent, you are also near to the great Powerfiat if you need maintenance assistance (y)

Owning both a coupe 20v and a Bravo HGT I would say the coupe.

The Bravo is great if you want a Wolf in sheeps clothing and very few recognise what an HGT is. It is at it's best for blowing away unsuspecting boy racers in VTR's etc.

The Coupe however through it's lower driving position feels far faster than the Bravo. The coupe actually handles better as it rolls less and has a little less torque steer.

The coupe turns heads and when you sit in it the car just feels one off and special. The one thing I would say about a N/A coupe over the turbo is that it sounds better being that the turbo muffles the induction.

Another vote for the Coupe, I don't see why you'd want the Bravo if its a Coupe you ultimately want with a 20VT, go for a Coupe now as your 'bridge car'.

Getting to know the Coupe in n/a form will help you make up your mind if you want more power and the turbo version, but in the meantime you can luxuriate in the Coupe shell. As Vick said, you are just down the road from the best Coupe specialist in the land and you seem to be sorted with the maintenance, which with the n/a isn't a great problem.

See beyond the blinkered 'if you're getting a Coupe, you HAVE to get a turbo' snobbery. ;) Turbo owners who had never driven a n/a drove mine and were surprised how quick it was.

My n/a Coupe was great and a well driven one isn't that far away from a standard 20vt in real world driving as most 20vt owners would make out (admit!) as proved by many Coupe meets.

If your budget can stretch to 4000+ there is a nice late (W reg) red 20v for sale on FCCUK now (late with the colour coded skirts and less chunky wheels).

I really like the Bravo HGT (and looked at many before getting my Coupe) but at the end of the day, kids would smile and wave at my Coupe in traffic (like I did as a kid), and unknowing people would comment 'what it is, it is a Ferrari?' (happened twice at least) in a garage.

The slashes, the lights, the dashstrip, the mirrors, the soaking when opening your window and the water rolling into the cabin, it's got to be the Coupe.

Realistically, Buy a Bravo. they look nice and i regret selling mine.

The coupe is too high maintenence as any coupe driver will tell you, also the coupe is more to insure than a bravo.

The Bravo HGT is only insurance group 15 iirc, where as the coupe is group 20 (the N/A is 1 lower than the turbo iirc).

THe Bravo HGT has the same 20v engine as the coupe minus the turbo an it sounds nice, especially if you get the 155 version that has VVt and sounds extra nice with an induction kit when you're booting it!!

i was gutted when the new owner took mine away when i sold the bravo, it sounded sooooo goood :(

Gutted, but get the bravo, Cheaper all round and a fun little "Cheaper to run than a coupe" hatchback :)

You won't be disappointed ;)

Before you ask, i had to sell the bravo after the little financial burdon the coupe left me in with it's repair costs

Just to bring the "other" answer into the discussion, i wouldn't swap either the coop or the bravo hgt for my punto hgt. The punto may be the slowest accelerating of the 3 (dont quote me on this as i dont know the 0-60 times) but for me it out handles both the others, got more toys than the others (as standard) cheaper to run and like mine when debadged (almost) suprises most other cars.

But to be totally honest all three are better than any ford, vauxhall, VW, etc etc etc....

enjoy which ever you get

As a bridge car, Bravo all the way, why?

ITS CHEAPER!

Cheaper to buy run, insure and fuel (yeah I made that last one up)

Its not the better car, I would rather the coop, the thing is everyone talks about coops as 20vt, the 20v is still a great engine, its quick and theres less to go wrong? I'd be more than happy with a 20v, and after putting time and effort into it it would take a lot to sell it and spend another 2k for 40bhp.

lol i dont know where all this cheaper to insure stuff is coming from, the quotes for the coop and hgt were exactly the same :p

Ive been considering an "other car" now too, depending on work situation next year. if its a viable option then its definately gonna be that. sadly its a non fiat :(

my only problem with getting a coupe is not having a 20vT. i know i'd be very happy with a 20v coupe (or even a 16v tbh), but i'd always wish i got the turbo whenever i looked at it. people would ask "is it a turbo?", and you'd have to say no. the other issue for me is the fact that the coupe is a well known sports car and people will expect you to be quick, whereas a bravo HGT will catch out a lot of people who dont realise what its capable of, and that is somehow more satisfying. i love keeping up the big boys on the motorway in my HLX, so if i had an HGT i'd blow them away. in a coupe you're supposed to win, so its not as much fun.

all it really comes down to is hothatch vs sports coupe. which market segment do you want to be in?
