I've got around £5k to spend on a car as I've come into a little bit of money. I was contemplating keeping the Marea as it has served me well over the years but I think it's finally time to move on. It would be nice to drop a 20VT into it and maybe an Alfa interior but i'd never get the money back.

Cars i've been looking at so far include:

Alfa 156 1.9 16v JTD New shape
Alfa 147 1.6 or 1.9 16v JTD
Alfa GTV 2.0
Fiat Panda 100hp
Fiat Croma 1.9 16v JTD
Hyundai Coupe 2.0 Gen 3

Anyones experience or advice on these, or any other similar cars you can think of would be greatly appreciated. Nothing too high on insurance though but still fairly quick/fun to drive.

I have to say, the Hyundai Coupe is winning at the moment...

What will you be doing with your marea dude? selling it or what?

I think I will have to sell it. I wanted to keep it as a weekend car or something but I just don't have the room :(

the croma weekend JDT is a good car, i looked at one, you dont see many of them around...

What a twa* who puts 27 pounds of petrol in a diesel? derrr

If its not broke, don't fix it or in your case replace it. The new car novelty will soon wear off. I'm sure you could....

A. Put the money to better use, I.E. House.
B. Kids or Wife.
C. Investment (University)
D. Save an extra 2-3K more and buy a relatively low mileage car from the above list, which should help keep costs down and give you more £ per :)

Man, i wish i had the money for yours, id snap it up in an instant!

Many thanks for your advice anon but I have some more money put aside for a house and a couple of other things. I decided on around £5k on a car because that seems to be the right sort of price to get a reasonably good car with decent ish mileage that I wouldn't loose much money on for a couple of years at least.

I had the exact same thoughts on the Croma Stephen which is why it's on the list but then on the other hand, is it actually a good thing there aren't many of them around? Harder to get parts etc. It's bad enough with the Marea!

I'm hoping other people will share your enthusiam Will! I've got to get the ABS sorted though first.
