Dear All
I am a newbie here so all help very welcome!
My 1999 Punto 60 SX 8v was due an MOT & I noticed what looked like water in the oil following it being lumpy at idle. Ok, so head off (which fought hard with many nuts/stud problems) and had it skimmed, new gasket set and its back together. Checked the timing positions & got the aux drive pulley on in the right position on its locating pin. Lambda sensor was rusted in the old exhaust downpipe so thats been replaced as well.
All ready to fire it up & turned the key and it started but only ran for a few seconds. Checked timing again and reset as it may have been a tooth out. Try to restart it and it won't fire. Taken the plugs out & got a spark all fine.
Fuel pump can be heard priming so I thought I would dribble a little petrol into the induction... it fires! Keep dribbling a little fuel into the induction direct and it will run??
Now very confused, have I got an injection problem due to disturbed wiring or have I gone mad & got the cam timing completely wrong?
All marks seem right unless I didn't have No 1 cylinder on TDC right?
If it is sparking then I assume the RPM/TDC sensor is working.
Are there any checks I can do on the single point injection as I can't get it to, or afford, a Fiat dealer to plug it in?
Help please!
