I thought to introduce myself. I've a thing for Italian cars & presently have three having recently sold a fourth.

I've just bought this 1970 car as a surprise mumble mumble birthday present for my wife. Presently, it's safely tucked away in my father's garage.

It has been recently restored in Hungary and a few months ago, looked like this.

It's in pretty good condition, inside and out & is fitted with a 126 engine.

Classic 500s are my OH's favourite cars. Especially those painted in Avorio chiaro. So, I plan to strip it completely, repaint it in the requisite colour, switch it to RHD, stick in an alternator, fit disk brakes in the front, sort out the engine bay and get rid of the silly, golf ball gear knob.

The car's fully registered and I'm just waiting for Craig's plates to deliver and then I'm taking it for a spin.

I can't wait!

Nice little car---hope the wife enjoys surprise birthday presents and can 'double de-clutch'! whist you are changing it to RHD (why?), why not fit rack-and-pinion steering at the same time. 'ABARTH 695' can supply the brackets required (now very nicely made in the UK) to fit a '126' rack. All the best with the work you intend to carry out---keep the pictures coming.

Yes, R&P steering is another job on the list. Although the Mrs can drive LHD manual, I thought it best to convert the car.

I googled Abarth 695. But, I can't find a company of that name. So, what am I doing wrong? Or is that a member's forum name? :)

Hi London;
'Abarth 695' is not a google site but a member of the Fiat Forum. He regularly writes on the Forum. Look under 'modified steering' on the 18/11/2013---you can then contact him directly and get a pair of the mounts--I bought a pair (for future use) and they seem to be well made and are not very expensive---all the best.

nice car. maybe you can help me with some issues with my 500. very new to the classic 500 and really do not know much about them. especially the front suspension issues I'm having. and the side mirrors you have are they three hoe or two hole mounting?
