Hello guys!

Hope you are well ☺️

It's us again! We brought the car to a mechanic which has fixed an oil leak that was coming from the top of the engine where the gasket is. They replaced the gasket and it seems fine, although we are still finding a little oil every now and then.

Also they changed the starter cable as it broke.

Though now we are hearing this strange "tick" noise that happens when the engine is running idle. Do you know what that could be?

Thanks so much!

I'm only managing to listen to the first few seconds of your video before it freezes, but it doesn't sound "nice" does it. You say it's only at idle? Have you tried snap opening the throttle to see if it's louder under load?

If you watch the generator pulley bolts I can see the speed of the engine drops/stumbles momentarily as the click happens (say at 14 and also 18 seconds )

Can you do a video without any input from the acc pedal , so I can see it steady idling

Hello guys thanks so much for your advice !

Here's a video with the idle on its own without acceleration.

The mechanic removed the spark plugs the other day and cleaned them.

Do you think it's dangerous to drive it? We are literally going off shortly for an hour drive!

Thank you!

I don't think the video was uploaded properly! Here it is again

It's gotta be HT randomly tracking to ground ... ( the spark plug voltage in laymen's terms ) - it's not getting where it should be getting to (i.e. the spark plug gap), this is why the engine is missing a beat every so often

You'd undoubtedly see it if the car was in the dark as little flashes of light.....

Turn it off and check all the spark plug leads to make sure they're on fully

Ok thank you so much! We are not super handy and will have to take it to a mechanic really, is it dangerous for us to drive? Thank you 🙏

Not damgerous per se, but it'll be misfiring every now and then, could be down on power.
2 things---(1a)--remove that fuel filter between the fuel-pump and the carburettor----the fuel system does not require a 4th fikter---there is one in the tank-unit, 1 in the top of the fuel-pump and the 3rd is in the top of the carburettor--(1b) having a plastic fuel filter practically over the dynamo is NOT a wise move--if it should leak it will drip fuel over the dynamo, with its attendant fire risk.
(2)-- that little 'tick' sounds as if the engine is running a bit lean--especially as it affects the running. I also agree with the suggestion of trying to run the engine in a dark space to see if there is a H/T leak.(i.e.---if there is a small break in one of the ignition leads which is allowing the 'spark' to briefly go to 'earth'.
