Technical Diesel Newbie: 2008 2.3 Multijet 130 error code P0135

I investigated a drop in mpg using a diagnostic computer (professional Snap-On, not a cheap code reader).
It shows error code P0135 lambda sensor electrical diagnosis.
I have changed the sensor for a new Bosch item and cleared the code but it recurs as soon as the engine is started.
Are there any other likely causes of this error code or am I doing something wrong?
Any suggestions welcome.

Hi

The Lambda (Oxygen) sensor has an internal electrical heater. This is supplied by Relay T09 and Fuse F11. It's not unknown for one of the other emission related items supplied by this fuse to develop a fault, which then blows F11. The other emissions related components are: the EGR Solenoid, the Throttle Body, the Blow-by heater and the Glow Plug controller.

The commonest culprit is the blow-by heater (oil vapour heater), which prevents the formation of tiny ice crystals in the oil fume recirculation circuit. It is only needed in extremely cold weather. In older Ducatos this heater runs all the time the engine is running.

Many owners have simply disconnected the failed heater with no ill effects. It is a simple PTC device hidden within one of the rubber fume hoses at the back of the engine, and has a 2 pin connector.

I suggest you check out F11, as the new Lambda sensor may well be OK

Well, fuse F11 and Relay T09 both checked out OK.
It has been suggested elsewhere that the ECU needs to be programmed to “learn” the new sensor before the code can be fully cleared; I have access to a professional spec Snap-On diagnostic computer but this is going outside my experience and expertise.
Can anybody shed any further light on this please?

There is such a function in the ECU so if your Snap-On is professional for Fiat also I assume it should be straightforward.
