Been thinking of doing something different with my boot space.
so getting rid of the two subs and 2 amps and getting one sub and one amp.

Im looking at the vibe slick amp's
possibly the A3 or A7... i can't see a difference in these two?

anyone suggest anything better? or a sub to go with these.

dont want to spend to much as i'm trying to simplify.

Cheers

Max power means nothing. The power plant is more powerful than the A7. The A3 is a 4 channel amp so will power 2, 3 or 4 speakers and the A7 is a mono amp so will only power 1 speaker unless you run 2 subs connected together.
I have heard good things about the Powerplant stuff but i doubt that they will really be winning any SQ awards and are only about 80% Efficient on average.

I personally think that you want this

Very highly recommended by a lot of people.

What are you doing about a box???

basically i want to have one amp on the back of the seats..
and one decent sub on the boot floor. thinking about doing a false floor type thing but having the sub fit in the spare wheel hole..

whats the best way to do something like that mate?
i want it looking as simple as poss but still smart.
is there a way of having a false floor/box?? or couldn't i do that? ive got no idea

Are you wanting to amp any other speakers in the car or you just want a sub for an extra bit of bass.
Yeah false floors are pretty good. Have a search for Krislee's thread of i think the pics may be in his gallery. That is one way of doing things.

Or you could buy grooved MDF which is plyable so you could shape it to the spare wheel bay. Make the top and bottom of the enclosure out of normal MDF and Fibre glass the weaker grooved stuff to give it better stability. Then put your false floor over that.
If puting a sub in the spare wheel bay i would be looking at a 10".
I am the wrong person to be talking to about stealth and tidiness though have you seen my install :D

well the flase floor can go from the normal floor right up to about 7inches above, as thats where the boot opening is. that would give me about 13-14 inches of space for a sub, so a 12" would be fine i think

so how could i get a sub box which is essentially this shape for the false floor? normal mdf for the top layer, and most of the bottom layer for strength. but how would i have it all sealed etc to act as a sub box rather that just a box if you get me?

Have you not answered your own question with that picture. Just make the part that drops into the wheel well out of grooved MDF that is flexable and should bend into a barrel shape. Then use FG to strengthen and seal it cuting a normal sheet of MDF to seal the bottom. You will need a lot of bracing and support to stop the top of the enclosure flexing.
Then working out the volume of the enclosure is your problem as it will need to be around 1.5-2cu ft for a 12" sealed box.

so do i just make it in two separate pieces.. one from normal mdf and one from grooved mdf then seal them together using FG?
and do i seal the rest of the joins using silicone?

Im thinking i'll just go for the fusion powerplant stuff. looks good for the price and will do the trick as i'm not going for competion bass or anything haha

as for volume of the box? ive no idea what i would do for that.. literally no idea! lol

Id go with top end fusion over Vibe anyday. That will sound quite good. EastUpperGooner has the same stuff IIRC except he has a ported box for his so i will link him to this later if he doesnt see it before :)

i already pm'ed him :)

but he wants £75 delivered..
and that set of the amp and sub on ebay looks a right bargain.. and i'm going for something simple aswell so i think it will be perfect

i could have the set on ebay, then buy eastuppergooners sub off him and have design im going for with one sunk in the floor. then if theres space have the other sub inverted behind it

Just use the box and scrap the spare wheel bay thing, you will have to cut off the pole that the spare wheel attaches too, then get it treated and welded.
But if you are adamant on doing it just make your ring out of the MDF then stick it too the base and FG round the attach the base of the rest of the box to the top in the same way.

but im wanting to have a build rather than just a box sitting in my boot like it is now!
i want something whihc looks good!

Well said, i wouldnt want to attempt such a build without learning a whole lot more about ICE first although its not impossible. Cost wise you will be looking at the price of wood, fg kits and then it will need deadening on the FG part.
Best thing to do is to use a box and build round it.
Also how you gonna fit the amps on the back seat they have no solid back :bang:
For working out volume i here has good calculators.
http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxcalcs.asp#rec
I have had a quick and i mean quick look and without building the box out like you said you have roughtly 0.54 Cu ft.
I dont know how Ozmosis had his done

Far be it for us to put you off. If you wana give it a go then just do it. Soon i will be taking delivery of a 12" sub to try out. It can handle 800w RMS and only cost £100 so hopefully it is as good as it sounds i will let you know.
