Hi all,

Just managed my first amplifier install. It took longer than I though and the neighbours probably wondered what I was doing at 1am but it sure was worth it!

I've now got a Blaupunkt Sevilla HU, Infinity reference 5000cs components and a Alpine MRP-t220 amp. The amp is nice and small so i could mount it under the front passengers seat without too much trouble, but still goes loud enough for me.

But... my 5 1/4 components just don't go low enough. I don't want to wake the neighbours or rattle my number plate, but I would like to fill the <65Hz region I have now. I would rather get a high quality 6 or 8 inch sub that would fill in to 40Hz and work well at low levels that a 12inch beast that needs to grabbed by the scruff of the neck by a 500W amp and shook hard to sound good. In case your wondering, I'd buy another amp for it.

Does anyone have any recommendations for subs of this size? Or any other ideas to get lower bass?

A seperate amp and sub would be best.

You 'll struggle to find an 8" sub that really drops and can take a lot of power, unless of course you're willing to spend a few £££.

The slightly better spec 10" subs will fit in a really small enclosure (mine only needs 0.6cuft or 0.45cuft "arse out").

I'd get something like the Alpine MRD-501 (keep it in the family!) and a decent 10" sub that works in a small sealed enclosure. Mount both amps on the back seat, keeps the wiring easier. Set the high pass on your component amp so you can really spank 'em without risking damage and let your sub do the pounding. Sorted.

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of a integrated solution, but in my experience, lower cost ported stuff suffers from 'chuffing' from the ports at any real level.

Not sure I'm willing to drop £230 on an amp for my sub yet... I was thinking more along the lines of a MRP-M350 (about £90-100). I've not had the chance to compare the V12 to the V-Power sound wise, is there much difference?

How about these subs? Both about £100 for the driver.

I like the way they seem to care about the details. I've got an REL Quake sub at home, that's only 8 inch driver, 100W RMS in a 12 inch cube, if I could get close to the performance of that I'd be happy.
