Then I'll be back to square one, and have to work my way through it. I'm nearly at the end of the basics (plus a bit). Then I'll be happy to take a trip to Devon, to see a friend. If that's uneventful I'll be looking further afield.KEEP THE KEY AND BUY ANOTHER CAR!!! probably cheaper!

! so unless you really have to code another key to the car and desperately want to do it yourself! might just be worth getting a mobile locksmith to do it for you!. at least the majority of the jobs are behind you now and look at the wonderful experience you had along the way

I am not convinced of it's reliablity yet, it's already left me stranded the same number of times in 4 weeks that my Astra did in 11 yrs.
Like any latin lover

Another thought is that there may have been a wiring fault lurking, and then when you disturbed it you have opened the can of worms. If this is the case you need to look at where there are bends and folds in the wiring as suspect points. Maybe moving the wires in different places wjth someone operates the key or while its switched on will reveal where the issue is ? Could even be the internal fuse box has become slightly unplugged if the wiring was pulled in the engine bay removing the engine.
Are you in some way implying that FIATS wiring is problematic and likely to cause issues!!!??? .
