just got a 1997 marea 2.0 20v manual saloon elx. drives lovely, sounds angry,
smooooth. couple of questions for any other owners who might know, buzzing sound when ignition on but no engine running from small black electrical gizmo on top of intake manifold. whistle from rear end of car when idling in traffic queque(did i spell that right?).
can i get an alarm that will interface with the central locking? thats three questions but whos counting, i got 150 horses for £1300 pounds.

Quick guess at the answers.

Only thing I can think of around the intake manifold is the air sensor, could be arcing. Ignition/injection relay could also be in that area.

Whistle could be exhaust or brake squeal if moving.

Elx should have an alarm, check for a siren behind the passenger front wheel arch.

thanks for your reply, had a good look round car now and cant see alarm,
ie theres no siren module, no ultra sonic sensors and no small hole in courtesy light housing also nothing in fuse box like a key.
so i bought an alarm with central lock function, trouble is the wiring from the door is not compatible with the wiring from the alarm. the alarm sends small
voltage signals via its cables and the wires on the marea have 12 volt signals
to operate the central lock.
anybody know about the central lock circuit please help.

The central locking if fitted will be part of the lock mechanism. If fitted the control relay should be on a bracket above the main fuse panel. You will need to power this or fit another relay here to power the dorr lock motors.
