New 2005 Fiat PUNTO PIC! /part 2/

I can't believe you're "dissing" a car by using the fact it had electrically assisted PAS when required.....you don't have to use it and it doesn't make it a girl's car! It's just a feature that you can use if you want.

TBH, anybody who says that PAS is for women has probably never tried the difference, having driven a fair few cars in my short driving experience, by far the thing I miss the most (beating everything from elec windows to central locking etc.) is PAS. I think if most on here tried the difference they would agree - PAS is so much nicer to drive with and also so much easier and quicker!

which is why they keep changing the shape, even Fiat think it is ****. if a car is selling that well, why change it? obviously the number of sales on the mk2 and mk2.5 put together was no where near as popular as the mk1. if they left the shape the same, then it would carry on selling.

as for PAS, i would prefer electric windows, sunroof & central locking etc over PAS anyday. i can manage to turn the steering wheel without getting out of breath. PAS was designed for women drivers.. what sort of a bloke winges about turning the wheel...tut tut tut

Chris, have you compared? It's not whinging about turning the wheel - I am not weak, it's about being able to do a parellel park in half the time on a busy road or pull out of a car parking space 30% quicker, less turns and less strenuous turns. Decent PAS on a standstill allows you to dry steer with no effort going from lock to lock in no time at all which isn't possible in a non-PAS car in which it takes a lot longer.

Seriously, try it, you will never want to go back. And before you repeat your words again, I am not weak, it's about speed more than anything.

pistachio guy lol, i have driven the mk2 and mk2.5, and straight away i was let down by the fact that neither of them even had the footrest for your left foot, this must have saved the spiks a few quid, nor was i impressed with the gearbox/clutch operation. for me, its a styling thing, the dashboard could have been designed better by a 5yr old, the wing mirrors look like stuck on lollipop sticks. they changed the whole design all at once, making the body have more sharper angles rather than gradual curves. i found the best thing about both these puntos are the back end..when its driving away from you lol. i was delighted to hand fiat the key to the courtesy car back, and even more happy to get my own back.. i dont have a problem reverse parking, i never have done. going without power steering for another 9yrs wouldnt bother me in the slightest.

thats my opinion, im not causing any arguments between anyone.

even with this new new shape, its completey different again. i mean look at Corsa's (**** i know) over the years, they changed slowly, lights, boot, wings. the punto changed completely overnight. if i wanted to drive round in a Seat wannabe, i would by a Seat (probably more reliable anyway). i think Fiat should consider the future of the people who are designing these cars. perhaps give the job to a youngster who is more 'streetwise'. i myself cant see this new shape taking off that well, like the subaru a couple of years ago, they soon stopped making that shape after it was released due to it looking so ugly....i could be wrong, but i doubt it.

Err... the corsa stayed the samedesign until this latest one, the only things that changed were the options, i.e. colour coded bumpers. Thats it! And the new one is about as much change as the Mk2 puto from the Mk1 - Diff front and rear lights and a new boot shape, also sharper angles on the new corsa.

And besides - it is a subjective thing, styling, and I for one think that the Mk2 is a much nicer car.

As for your point about keeping the design the same and it will sell just as well - are you actually insane? If the Sierra (Massive seller in its day) was still on sale, would peo-le still buy it in the volumes that they did then, og course not. Cars are a fashion item as much as a vehicle, thats why a lot of people (Not me - I ahve an L-reg Cinq, hehe) buy new cars as soon as they come out - the "new thing in town".

The Mk1 Punto's sales have dwindled since the release, thats because people dont want a ten year old car.

I aint gonna argue about which Punto drives better, because I haven't driven either (tbh I wouldnt want to, I think Punto's are only saved from the same doom of Saxos and Corsas by the fact that they are Fiats).

But, your other point about the PAS (poof button was it?) is ludicrous! I suppose if you had your way you would have a starting handle coming out of the front of your ten year old car (that is perfection apparently). What about still having sliding side doors, or maybe flat panes of glass in windscreens? They all work just fine, so why change em!? I suppose it is because blokes are becoming less manly!

I have to say that you havent come across well in this thread - apparently all blokes in cars with PAS (About 40%?) are girls? (By which I presume you mean iffeminate or weak, not actually pre/post op transexuals)

I'll let em know

Its rear window is very small ;) ;) (before you say, YES, i am kidding)

I can't say very much, it's impossible to know, except it looks like they chose that stupid place for the rear reflectors a la Ford Focus stylee.
