Right, Just had a random idea, I'm planning a sort of boot build but I want a neon in there, I was thinking ( could be dangerous!) isit possible to wire it up to the amp? If I wire it with the live and ground? Because the amp comes on with the head unit so I wouldn't need a switch for it.

Is it possible or just plain stupid?

Ally :)

Anything is possible!

a neon lamp is quite low power so you could wire it in to the control wire from the head unit. for safety add a small low amp fuse.. just in case! it is only meant to run a relay so any load up to say half an amp (500mA) will be fine.

quite an easy thing to do, just do it with the battery off. or the head unit off and the sub live removed from the battery.

The power wires going to the amp are permanently live. The remote wire just tells the amp to switch on and start drawing that power.
How long does it take to wire a distribution block and inline switch? No time and no reason not to.

BTW neons are oooold. LED's are much better for the job now days. I have mine wired to the old boot light circuitry and the ones upfront I have soldered to the power cable of my head unit switch.

What volxstu said, LEDs cheaper, more efficient and easier to put in, and wire it to the boot light unless you plan to shut people in the boot and want to give them some light to read a book?

the amp/aerial remote feed from the head unit is not designed to take any sort of significant load
