Tom,
please see my engine bay.....I think it's a MK 2. Can I replace the whole plasticky tubing with ss pipe....or Samco hose?

Yup, you can. Samco will be insanely expensive and is hard to get for some reason.

SFS hose is the same but you can actually buy it.

Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

OK, so the whole plastick tubing from the airflow sensor can come out? I'm also buying a bigger cone in the forthcoming weeks.

Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

There is no airflow sensor on the 1.6 but yes, the whole thing up to the throttle body can come off complete with all its random reasonant boxes.

What filter are you getting?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

wait till Aug 31, then you will see the filter!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

Jay, you mentioned that you wanna replace your filter with a bigger one. Just to advise you that a bigger filter than the one you already have will not improve performance unless you have a big capacity engine.

The Bravo...different day, different sh!t :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

Really? I was under teh impresson that my car was starved of air, then again it could be the restrictive plactic pipe that came as standard. I need a foam filter anyway, as they seem to be the best for the Bravos.

Thanks mate.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

Tom,
Hope you don't mind me asking you this, but can you please email me the dimensions needed to make a good custom pipe?

Cheers boss,
Jay.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

As I said to someone else, I don't give dimensions :)

The stock intake is VERY restrictive, its only about 35-40mm diameter inside that pipe.

A big filter never hurts.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

How much would it cost roughly if I got a local steel / tubing firm to make one?

Also does it take long?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

One off would be ALOT, £100 at lesat.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

Fook me!!!! I'd be better off buying a hose similar to Samcos (cheaper).

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

Probably :)

If I didn't have other things to do I'd make some more.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

Where can I get a cheaper hose then? I dont ask for much, do i?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

Thats the nature of the beast. If you went for rubber hose it would be much cheaper BUT you can't get bends in big rubber hose. (or at least I ain't found them)

You could have the tube done in mild steel and painted or you could get the tube made up and you could finish it yourself (grind the welds, polish etc..).

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

Since I couldnt find any SS pipe for the 1.8 and since I believe the KN 57i lets too much warm air come in, I came with the solution for the coldest air intake possible for it... Heres the pics of the piping

And the filter is hidden there in the botton next to the license plate...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

looks cold. There is a disadvantage of doing that though.

Long pipes add restriction :(

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Your Help Tom

Doesn't seem to affect his car :)

The rolling road test doesnt lie...and all tests have been made in the same place in the same machine...havent lost, but have gained 4 HP/5Nm since last time and with this pipe included :)
