Ok so im a little bored of the performance now, as you know its the HLX MKII 1.8 (1.7) 2000 X plate.

I haven't done a great deal to it other than modding the lungs and arse end. (Lowered on 17")

Air filter with direct cold air flow (a nice little burble)

SportX catback to a Powerflow SS Back Box

Obviously i can de-cat it but is there anything else i can do that is reasonably cheap.

Someone on here previously told me about DASTEK..
I have got my eye on one but will it work??
Where would i get it mapped??

Any tips would be greatly appreciated....aiming for and extra 10-15bhp if possible

Not a lot you can do I'm afraid with the 1.8.

It's a reliable lump, why risk it? :)

is there that much difference insurance wise of a hgt to a 1.8 mate? surely cant be that much :s

Mike - Its not the Insurance thats the problem (I was quoted around £800 before my renewal on 7/4 and i now have 1yrs NCB so should be a little cheaper currently paying £560f/c on the 1.8)its the affording to buy another Car i just dont have +£900 to spend out right..

Unichip have a dealer 10mins away from me so i think i'll be paying them a visit.

I'll decat it and see how that feels first of all.

Anyone selling a decat pipe for a 1.8???

ah ok mate(first thoughts was insurance wise hehe)

But mate, before you go getting it dec-catted,id seriously re-consider it.The laws nowadays you will get a f**kin if caught! i.e random stop check?) a mate has his evo decatted and he once got caught.Got took off road there and then, got fined and had to get it re-mot'd! Its de-catted again lol but he could get stopped again and f**ked!

I was thinking of getting mine done whilst car was off the road but now,im stayin put with it on for sake of it.

I was gonna decat mine until I saw the laws and plus it's loud enough with my cat back anyway don't really want to upset my neighbors too much more!

very very rarelly you will get pulled an done for a decat,
too be on the safe side why not try a sports cat,

Throttle boddies and a high lift cam.

Then the dastek for some serious mapping.

Would be a monster but cost a fortune.

I read some time ago that the law can't do you just for not having a CAT converter per se - the issue being wether the car is still within emmision limits or not for it's year of manufacter/registration, (no matter if Plod likes it or not)

Many a modded/tuned car can still pass the emmisions tests 'catless', depending what has been done, (and how well set-up) and providing the engine is in good condition.

But maybe they've tightened-up on the letter of the law since then?

its basically a straight thru pipe, the price even says it all as you can get a straight thru pipe for about £40 from your local garage, even says off road track use only.

for the hgt for a decent sports cat your looking at £350 (cant remember the site),so im sure a decent sports cat for the 1.8 wont be far off

if its a de-cat your after, take it to your local garage,Get it fitted there and then :)

Thanks for pointing out the obvious there ANON, i did say that it was a DE-CAT that i have found, so i am fully aware that there not for Road use.....

Going to a garage to get a straight through will not work because you need the fittment on the pipe to attach it to the Manifold downpipe...

Also the sportex DE-CAT appears to imitate a CAT so not as obvious to the PLOD if stopped LOL

lol mate at 2nd above post ^^

it may not be obviously decat looking like ya say so you 'might' get away with it if randomly stopped.

all you can do is buy it and go from there,if it fits then win :)

p.s keep ya existin 'zorst in the boot so u can swap it back over if need be lol

Yeah, currently i have got a CAT back Sportex on to a Powerflow SS backbox which i take off come MOT time just to be sure it'll pass as it has failed once before which was probably down to needing a service.

Got my standard 1.8 Exhaust in the shed and i would defo keep the CAT once removed just so i can out it back on if needed.

Time to buy the DECAT me thinks...
