Need help with sound deadening.

Hello everyone. I have just started my boot build which will involve me taking apart my old active sub so I can have a cent really mounted sub in the boot that goes in the spare wheel well. Here's what I've done so far:

Only problem is the sound quality is shocking. I'm guessin it has something to do with it being a single plank of MDF but having absolutely no idea about acoustics I don't really know. What sound deadening help the MDF resonate batter?
Any help would be very grateful.

Have you made a port for the sub ?
if you are doing a boot install like this i would normally recommend deading the spare wheel bay, they sound horrid(the metal is not very thick)
And lastly have you got a amp installed and what are the gains like?

The sub needs to be in a box. It won't work like that. I would imagine you have already burnt the coil out.

Depends if it's an infinite baffle/free air sub or not (if FLI make such a thing). If it's not then it needs to be in a sealed or correctly ported box to allow it to work properly.
