My cars keyfob alarm only works the central locking now and the alarm doesn't sound nor does it flash the lights. When i turn the emergency key under the steering wheel, inside fuse compartment, on and off, i hear a small cut off chirp sound from my siren. Its got power just don't seem to work the alarm no more. Any ideas, could it be a fuse, or a relay or something.

All ideas welcome!

Thanks

Joske

Is it the std Fiat alarm?
Can you trace the wires back to the units to see if there is a loose connection?

Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

Yeah its standard. I took the unit out after ripping the wheel arch liner out and its all wired in snuggly. Theres no problems with it, its got 12V going in. Maybe my key need to be reprogrammed to the alarm???

My dad says its a fuse or relay?

I really need it to work.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

Brilliant thanks mate will give that a try.

But only downside is that i require the code for the alarm.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

Ok my keyfobs don't respond to the bloody ceiling light LED and button. When i press the button the LED flashes but its supposed to stay on when i press my keyfob button but instead it blinks out.

The manuals pointless. Anyone know how to help me, I know Fiat will charge a bomb to repair. Cant afford there costs.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

Hi,

I've received your message in the italiaAuto.com. Thanks. Anyway sorry to hear that you didnt have the alarm code.

As you said "When i turn the emergency key under the dash inside the fuse box from on to off or vice versa, the siren makes a very short little noise. When i come to press my keyfob the central locking only works no alarm"

FYI.....
1. when you press the keyfob, the central locking works with no alarm mean that the emergency key is at the "OFF POSITION". Pls bear in mind this.

2. When the emergency key is "OFF position" the control unit of alarm will emits a acoustic warning to indicate that the alarm has been de-activated. (OFF)

3. When the emergency key is ON, the ECU stays silent to indicate that the alarm is activated (ON).

Based on your explaination, your alarm system is okay!!!!! Dont worry too much but sad to hear that you didnt have the alarm code. So reprogramming is impossible.

Pls check the position of the emergency key whether ON or OFF position.

The good features of the Fiat alarm system is the system allow us to "manual self diagnosis" which I will elaborate later.

Furthermore pls do not try to reprogramme the system, I'm afraid that you might deleted the existing code!!!!!

Due to the "self diagnosis is a long process ( I mean I need to type in detail) pls check the position of the emergency key & I will post the detail later.

Good luck

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

I have tried the keyfob button with the Emergency key at the off and at the on position. Same, it only works the central locking. The other key i have doesn't do either. It will only start the car, the batteries are good too.

I tried the programming as mentioned in the Fiat manual but it says the LED should be on permanent if signal is accepted. Each time i use either key the LED blinks off. The Fiat manual doesn't mention anything there about that.

I have the red key too. But theres no alarm button on that obviously.

If i know i can get the alarm to work i'll try to get the Fiat Code but Fiat say it'll cost 23pounds and they may not have the code, as all codes pre 99 have not been kept.

Thanks for your help, very much appreciate it and will owe you big time if you can help me get it to work.

Hi,

I have a similar problem. I have a 1998(S) HGT. When I use the key fob to unlock the car, the lights flash and the central locking works but no sound is heard.

Where is the emergency off switch? If i turn this off and then on will it reactivate the siren?

Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

I dunno if it'll reactivate the siren but the emergency key hole is found behind the fuse cover under the steering whell. You'll need a wierd shape key to turn it.

My car only works central locking and the lights wont flash, nothing.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that tomorrow morning. Does anyone know if there's a fuse for the siren that may have blown?

Or where the siren/siren wiring is so i can trace it back to try and find loose connections etc.

Thanks for your help
Matt

Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

Your siren is well hidden under the passenger side wheel arch. Behind the indicator basically. You'll need to remove the wheel then the arch liner.

If you look near your air filter box you should find a wire tucking away under the wheel arch, thats the alarm wire and indicator wire.

Re: Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

Hi joske,

For your infor....on the Alarm system

OPERATION

Activation - De-activation
The alarm is activated by pressing the transmitter key (remote control): activation is indicated by the turn
signals coming on for about 2.5 seconds together with an acoustic signal (beep). The operating range is
ABOUT 10 METRES.

DE-ACTIVATION is carried out by pressing the remote control key again. De-activation is indicated by
the turn signals flashing twice and the acoustic signal beeping twice.

Note: is not possible to activate the alarm with the ignition key in MAR position, but only in STOP
or PARK, or removed altogether.

Activation or de-activation is indicated by a dissuasion LED. In countries where it is permitted by the legislation, optical and acoustic signals are also usd, as indicated previously for the ITALIAN version.

BY-PASSING THE SYSTEM
When the transmitter batteries are flat or the alarm system is faulty, the siren may be de-activated by
means of an emergency key located on the control unit (OFF position).

Turn the key to OFF position during-long periods of vehicle disuse (longer than two weeks).

When the key is turned to ON position, if the battery is not sufficiently charged or if the control unit has
been disconnected, the alarm emits an intermittent acoustic signals, 10 beeps (except for some coun-
tries where this is not permitted).

SURVEILLANCE
During surveillance, the dissuasion led flashes at a rate of 0.8 Hz.
In this status, the alarm system monitors:
- doors, bonnet lid and boot lid
- battery disconnection/leads cut
- unauthorised activation of the ignition switch
- movements inside the passenger compartment (volumetric surveillance)

ALARM STATUS
The system enters alarm mode when one of the surveillance sensors encounters an abnormal situation.
An alarm is announced by activation of one of the sirens for up to three 26 second cycles (if the cause of the alarm persists) in addition to the turn signals for up to 4.7 minutes (in countries where legislation
permits it) provided the cause of the alarm persists.

Exit alarm mode by: •
- pressing the transmitter key;
- by means of an emergency key (The alarm on - SURVEILLANCE condition remains stored inside
the control unit).

NOTE Use this procedure ONLY IF it is NOT possible to exit alarm mode in any other way.

PROGRAMMING COUNTRY CODE

COUNTRY OF OPERATION
ITALY -1 CODE (Number of key presses)
GERMANY- 2
FRANCE – 3
SW1TZERLAND - 4
UNITED KINGDOM - 5
BELGIUM - 6
HOLLAND –7
EC - 8
Low siren (TURIN) - 9

It is also possible to identify the country operating mode by means of the following procedure:
- open the bonnet lid;
- turn the ignition key from MAR to STOP:
within 15 seconds. press switch (at the front bonnet) 7 times in rapid succession in less than 10 seconds.

Entry to MANUAL FAULT DIAGNOSIS will be indicated by 5 beep. During these 5 beeps, press the front bonnet switch and hold down. A further long beep will indicate acceptance of this manoeuvre.

- hold the switch down for the entire duration of this long beep. The long beep indicates that the system is in Country programming mode and the Country code can now be entered;

release the switch and within the next 10 seconds press the switch in accordance with the table for
selecting the required country operating mode (the system will be beep to confirm each press).

SYSTEM SELF-DIAGNOSIS

The alarm signal is able to notify the User of any anomalies in the system by turning on the dissuasion
LED in constant or flashing mode. When the system is turned on the system runs an automatic test program, during which the dissuasion LED flashes at 4 Hz. If an anomaly or fault is present in the system, the LED indicates number of pulses.

Automatic test display

Flashing 8 hz duration 2.5 sec-----door/bonnet/boot left open or switch faulty
Flashing constant light duration 2.5 sec------volumetric sensor faulty

If a door, the bonnet or boot is found open or a fault is detected in the volumetric sensor, the relevant
sensor is excluded from surveillance and a beep is issued one second following activation. At the moment of de-activation, the system causes a dissuasion LED to flash to indicate which sensor triggered an alarm during surveillance.

ALARM SIGNAL

The flashing codes are shown in sequence. These codes are 1.5 seconds apart.

Remember that during service operations on the car or in the case of alarm faults which cause the siren to
go off, the siren may be by-passed by turning the key-operated switch on the control unit from ON to
OFF.

Note that each individual component (of the anti-theft system) installed on the vehicle becomes an integral part of the system. It may not therefore be fitted or tried on other vehicles, even if they are the same model.

FLASHING MODE MEANING

8 Hz, duration 2.5 sec. Door/bonnet/boot left open or switch faulty
Constant light, duration 2.5 sec. Volumetric sensors faulty

N. PULSES MEANING
1 Pulse Right front door
2 Pulses Left front door
3 Pulses Right rear door
4 Pulses Left rear door
5 Pulses Volumetric sensors on courtesy light
6 Pulses Bonnet lid
7 Pulses Boot
8 Pulses Power source operated by ignition +15
9 Pulses Direct power source + 30
10 Pulses At least 3 causes of alarm
Constant light Transmitter battery flat

MANUAL FAULT DIAGNOSIŠ

It is possible to carry out MANUAL FAULT DIAGNOSIS by opening the bonnet and turning the ignition key from MAR to STOP. Within 15 seconds, press front bonnet button 7 times in rapid succession in less than 10
seconds. After 10 seconds, the turn signals
give one flash.

When the device is in this mode, automatic fault diagnosis is carried out on the volumetric sensors connected to the control unit.

If the test reveals no faults, the turn signals
flash 3 times and the siren gives 3 beeps.
After this initial stage, each time the switch
status changes, the turn signals give a short
flash and the siren beeps. The LED on the
central console also flashes.

When the ignition switch is turned to MAR, the siren gives a short beep (500 msec.) and the direction
indicators flash (2.5 sec).

This last operation causes the system to exit the manual test procedure. The MANUAL FAULT DIAGNOSIS procedure can also be terminated by not carrying out any operation for 30 seconds. Exit from the
system is indicated by the turn signals coming on for 2.5 secs, and a beep.

I hope these help!!!

I think this information should incorporated in the
“Bravo guide” for future reference.

Good luck

Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

Hi i tried your manaul test and it works fine the alarm as you stated, but i still cant manage to get my key to work the alarm.

Is this a case of hunting down my key code for my car and then using your steps you mentioned above and reprogram the keys.

But what about one of my keyfobs not working anything as in doesn't operate central locking just the ignition code.

Joske

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

FYI...

Each key has different key code for alarm. ie. both of your car keys have different key code.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

Would it be possible to order new keys and have them reprogrammed or is it just better to leave the alarm alone. I did get a small oval shape thing with my car keys that says Fiat on it but its a very small piece of plastic about an inch long and a centimeter wide, and it has numbers and letters on that?

I can take a pic if you want?

Will this Code Card have both the numbers of the key codes on them? IF so i'll invest on getting my code card.

Joske

Thanks for your help so far.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

Yeap, it is possible to order new keys and have them reprogrammed but I donno how much this will cost you.

The numbers in the thing that you've mentioned is not a key code number.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Need Help with my Alarm, Anyone!!!

Ok i'll prob invest and get the alarm key numbers from Fiat during the week.

You mentioned before that the keys are numbered, but when i look over my keys i cant see any numbers, only number i find is BXXX number relating to when you need the key cutting. There is a symbol on the key like two circles with a triangle in it but there are no numbers in which i can find to number the keys.

You mentioned doing a Reset when i get the code. Is this when i disconnect the battery and let the ECU reset?

thanks again as always

Joske

p.s you being a star in helping me is it possible to have your name.
