Technical nasty tapping

every now and then (mainly in the morning), when i first start my engine there is a really loud tapping noise, like the tappets but alot louder, but if i switch it off then back on again straight away, it stops. somethimes i have to do it twice. any ideas? all suggestions welcome, cheers.

Probably is the tappets. The 900's are notorious for it.

Yup. It is the tappets. An easy remedy I use instead of the 2 start thing is before starting the car. Press in fully and release the accelerator. When you start the car now, the auto choke kicks in and the ticking noise stops in about 4-5 secs.

98% of the time, my engine's silent, not a wisper, it only when i start it once in a blue moon. and for a matter of seconds, like i said when it happens, i switch the engine off after a second of hearing the sound, leave it a sec and start it again, then its silent again. i'm confused. thank you for the quick reply. most of the time i think its the tappets, (when it does that sound), but its becaus it stops almost imediately, that i think its something else.

I agree with the tappets idea, mine are really noisy initially, but they quieten down quickly. A mate with a 900 Cinq said hers were really noisy, could it be one that is worn slightly more than the others??

it could be, ormally though, 98% of the time, you cant here any at all. think i get em all replaced, how much you recon? plus labour?

Not with a 900cc its not worth it.
Next time its due for an oil change go for some a bit thicker might help a bit

i have, i did an oil change today, chucked some castrol gtx magnetech in. awesome stuff, its silent, well recomended. so far so good, but theres time yet.
