Cinquecento N246 UCF Mighty Mouse The First Van Aaken Turbo

Introduction

Some may already know of this car. It was first registered to van aaken themselves and was their development car for their turbo kits. It was used as their press car and has so far featured in auto italia, an unknown French magazine also is in the small fiat book.

When I first saw this for sale I wanted it but didn't think that I would actually come to own it. To me it is such an important piece of cento history so has to be saved. Pics are to come I haven't got the car yet should be with me Tuesday when I'll be like a kid at Christmas.

The plan for now I'm going to give it a thorough service. Ill put on a new crank sensor and put a new engine loom on that ill mod to the turbo application as I believe current loom has been hacked about a bit this will also mean that a new lambda will plug straight in. That will get it running I'll chuck some new tyres on it to get it mot. Then I've got a mate who will hopefully spray the rear quarter for me then I'll treat it to a full machine polish, new graphics and a few bits under the bonnet re painting, re jigging etc. in the end I'd hope for it to look exactly like it did when it featured in auto italia.

The eventual plan is a full rebuild incl engine, stainless mani, oil cooler etc but that's to come once my 1.4 is finished to the spec that I want it

I've never owned a turbo petrol before so it's going to be a bit of a learning curve so there'll be plenty of silly questions appearing at one time or another:rolleyes:
YAY its been saved!!! This pleases me greatly.

Your not so far from me (bout 100miles to Ilminster i think) so if you ever need a hand with it or whatever let me know - i've had 2 van aaken's by now ;)

That would be awesome I'm sure a cooked breakfast and tonnes of tea will be here I'm sure I'll be fine I can only go bang once can't it:eek:

Yes black box!!! :D nice one! I'm only in Exeter as you know so I can pop up and give you a hand if you need one? :)

Let's hope so. Test driving duties covered but heck if you have insurance I might let you go forwards and backwards in it. Pop down at one point or I'll drive to yours in it once mot'd. Hopefully first pics should be on tomorrow and as luck would have it I have a day off on Thursday for an appointment so I'm sure rest day could be spent poking it

As i said on facebook fella, i always thought this just need a new loom from everything random people have said to me about it over the years. Glad to here its running and sounds ok etc. Lets hope that random VanAaken mf2 equivalent thingy-ma-bob works properly when you actually start driving it about - i shall keep my fingers crossed.

Well it's about time I put an update up on this lots has happened. Did mot prep this included oil and filter, plugs, fuel filter, updated fuel pump, fpr, new air filter also did most of the rubber parts at the front as all were perished, new vac lines. Whilst jacked up fuel tank sprung a leak so borrowed a new tank off my 16v. Then I found the top mounts had gone so shocks and springs off 16v went on

Fast forward to Thursday finally put in for an mot after much faff with emissions which was down to duff lambda, timing being way out, cat blocked up. Tester commented on a few items which I have since repaired/changed one being front calipers being slightly sticky more on these later

got a fresh ticket and got some tax just in time for Bristol Italian auto moto show which happened today. Fantastic show and a good journey up for some reason got parked next to a load of Ferraris

Only pic I've got at the mo. Journey home was interesting after one bit of breaking down a hill car felt funny on braking and lacked acceleration pulled into a layby to notice smoke from one of the front brakes looks like that sticky caliper had firmly stuck made it home with plenty of stops to cool so that's tomorrow's job think where it's been sat the piston have pitted and got stuck taking a while to retract

Few people have commented on the inlet tract from inter cooler to plenum where it runs over the exhaust mani not an ideal setup taking in lots of heat so rerouting is the next job along with a new turbo that has intact turbine blades not chewed up like current turbo

i have a pair of standard calipers painted black if you interested fella, i think i might have some early style PGT ones as well..

I know this car has done ALOT of sitting and i'm sure most of its issues are just due to that. Proof a low miler isn't always best as many people think as to be a low miler these days all cinqs have had to have sat about quite a bit.

Pretty sure the intake pipe is same as mine and its always been ok and never had heat issues, infact that pipe tends to be quite cold on my sei even after a hard blast - its the most direct route, short and with few bends which is a plus, if you want to change it i would think about heat shield before moving it myself.
