Basically i brought the wife a nice 1995 Punto 55 SX last winter to get to work and back instead of her walking 2 miles in the cold,it's been a smashing car until this problem arose, She came home one day for half hour then when she went out again the car had this problem with no warning what so ever.
Basically on tick over it sounds like a tractor/lawnmower and eventually the revs die and it cuts out also when you rev the engine and get over 2000 RPM it tends to make a clanking noise which to me sounds like its coming from towards the back of the engine ( The clanking noise doesnt kick in at any certain revving point it varies but is always over 2000 rpm ).
Before this happened we did notice oil had started appearing on top of the engine cover etc but i havent a clue if this has anything to do with it!
Obviously i would take to a garage but due to the problem i wouldnt feel safe driving when it's like this etc and cutting out when revs are taken off at islands etc so would like advice if possible on things to try and solve this and last resort is ill have to drive it to a garage!
