Such a sad time for me .. my little powerhouse may have to go....
THE STORY...
Had a new cambelt fitted (57K)and a full service done late last year then before xmas started getting a "tapping" from the engine which got investigated and withuot an engine stripdown was told it was probably a chipped valve.... took it to a diesel engine specialist and rebuilder and he asked if I had been through any deep water lately at which I replied "Yes".
During the "floody" months end of last year I remember driving in the dark back from Cumbria late at night and turning a corner I went from 45 mph to nearly standstill as I hit the torrent head on..I managed to drop to 2nd gear and keep the revs up and "bounced" my way through with the front wheels making contact on every downstroke (wasnt funny at the time) then on the other side it coughed and spluttered and then it seemed ok...
This is how it ended up at the specialists place with the "tapping" getting more noisy......
He's narrowed it down (without taking the head off and dropping the bottom end) to a bent Conrod as he has had a few in the recent weeks with the same noise.....
THE RESULT...
Been quoted some "megga" price to sort it and the car only cost me £3k 2 years ago...as I cant afford to pay for this can anyone please help me in my time of trouble..... as I'm seriously thinking of sending it to the Club in the sky.....
SORRY for such a long "dit" but tried to explain everything...
Forever in your debt

What condition was your JTD in when you hit the flood? Was the induction in good order and well maintained?

You'd need to push the bow wave over the bonnet to flood the air filter and even then there's a fair chance the filter would protect the engine i.e. stop it.

Checking the filter should easily show flood water damage (even after this time)

Extremely unlikely you'd have a bent con-rod, with the engine still running, so I'd tend to discount that :chin:

This is a long shot have you tried runing without auxilary belt on.
I’m thinking that just maybe the water and the tapping are not related or pehaps the deep water affected the bottom pully somehow.
The jtd do suffer with bottom pulley tapping most noticably when cold but after time it will tap all the time and get louder.
It’s a sort of loose tappet noise, did mine a while back easy job cost about £80 for part from Fiat.
This cost nothing to check apart from a little time.

i have to agree with Argonought with this, very unlikey having been through flood water and locked the engine and had a devil of a job to get it started both times due to water ingress, You managing to keep it going means that to me the engine didnt lock as that is when you will bend something.
These jtd's are a hard engine and i would be looking at cris1117's post before doing anything rash.

Cheers to everyone replying so far..... like the idea of the bottom pulley prob.....:)
How do I go about removing the belt etc..any ideas..?
Cheers again
