Thats not standard. :)

I have 7 months left. So i'd have to pay those 7 months at what I pay per month?
Yeah, you essentially have to buy out the remainder of your policy if you cancel it early. Some insurers might also charge you an administration fee. For example if you pay £30p/m on your insurance then you'll have to pay £210 to cancel the remaining 7 months.

All depends who you're with. A lot of brokers will mug you right off and do it on a staggered monthly basis IE get to 9 months and you'll still have to pay for the full 12, or if you don't have to pay for the full term you'll still have an admin charge to cancel the policy (£75 with Budget insurance for example).

However you go with a quality insurance company (I'm with one), this will normally only apply when insuring direct and not though a broker, then its pro-rata what you pay, ie only have 6 months cover and you only pay for 6 months cover, and only £41 admin fee on top which is acceptable imo :)

Brokers can be good for specialist or cheap annual insurance as long as you never want to make any changes or cancel mid term.

I'm with Asda who are awful but when I looked into cancelling my insurance policy early they wanted me to pay £25 admin fee and the remaining months on my policy which seemed fair. Would've lost the NCB I'd earned though so wasn't an option.

Admin fee AND the remaining months, so more than what leaving the policy to run in full would have cost

Only £25 more than what the policy would cost if I let it run though, hardly worth mentioning when the monthly payments were £300+ a month

That is discussing. No way that £25 can be justified. The point of an admin fee is to cover any admin cost which is already included in the full annual premium, if you're paying that (the full premium) then there shouldn't be any additional charges (n)

ASDA Motor Insurance :(

Glad to see the back of them next month.

If it's any consolation I had a falling out with Mum's insurer today. Very simple (thought I) change the policy from a Punto mk1 Sporting to her new Panda 4x4. The Post Office said the underwriter wouldn't cover it for the remaining 4 months!! Our only option apparently was a new 12 month policy which we didn't want as it was expensive and the PO have proved completely incompetent. We could cancel but there was a £55 fee leaving £3 to come back, or take the new policy much more expensive - they also wanted a £20 policy amendment fee despite me pointing out they were refusing to amend, and said it had to be a new policy!!!

Despite the PO assuring me that the insurance grouping made no difference and a much more expensive car had to cost more to insure, the Meercats came up trumps. New policy less than that for the Punto and much cheaper to ditch the old policy and pay the £55!! Bunch of idiots, who also gave incorrect advice on the changeover between cars which could have cost Mum 6 points on her licence  We went with Churchill btw, who managed fully comp, protected, with all the trimmings for £180 - and we get another Meercat (y)

If it was on a recorded call you'll have been fine if you'd pushed it, had something of happened.

This is why I dislike brokers, all well and good for cheap annual policies, but a force economy should circumstances change (n)

Yes you're right. I thought they had their own policies actually at the time.

Mum trusted their name last year, but it's been a complete mess all year! Apart from the principal I'd have paid to get away from them - heaven knows how they'd handle a claim - that's when you are glad of a good insurer!

My point with "cheap" insurance is that it always costs you more one way or t'other :(

I've been with NFU after Privilege gave me terrible service during and after a claim.

I talk to a local office, changing vehicles doesn't phase them, claims are dealt with in one phone call and it gets cheaper every year. (y)

Can you do J turns in autos? If I had a car I wanted to get rid of I'd certainly be practising my J turns in a McDonalds car park :D

Wimp, do J-turns and hand brakes in my main car when required. Having said that only done one hand brake turn in the Bravo, 180 degrees then realised I had the nice soft winter rubber on, left a very think black line on the carpark and made me cry

Not done a J-turn in it yet mind. Although I can confirm that 750L's and Selecta's can J-turn very well, never managed a handbrake turn in them though, handbrakes never seem to have been good enough :p

750's do J Turns, good to know.... :D
No I've done 2 J-Turns in my life so its not a common habit, once in my car in a McDonalds carpark just after I passed. STALLED not ashamed to admit.
2nd time was in my brothers BMW 540, it wen't quite well, he was impressed with me. Never done it since as I don't want to damage anything
