Seicento My Sei Sporting

I know you said about it a while ago but in regards to the rev counter not working to start off with, mine does the same and it's basically because the needle gets stck on the end of the rest pin at 0revs. A well timed blipp of the throttle and smack to the left hand side of the unit (about 10 o'clock position:) ) is the perfect cure. Don't you just love fiat design!!!

Thanks for that tip :) It hasn't reoccured yet though, so can't test it out :(

I T-cutted a few parts of the paintwork, most notably the roof the immediate area around it. After a polish of the whole car it's like a whole different red!

Also fitted a GSR cam cover, bought oil and filter today, need to find some engine flush. Then I need to get the clutch cable replaced (as a precaution, got some serious mileage coming up) and sort this engine mount that I have a thread on in the Sei section.

Car now ready in maintenance terms for it's trip to Lancaster (through the Peak District), done the following in the past few weeks:

- Forte engine flush, used and abused for a tank (crap that came out with the old oil was testiment to it's powers)
- Engine oil drained and changed with Selenia 20K, filter replaced.
- Complete cambelt cover fitted (the numpty who had the cover off before had cut a substantial part of it away to make it easier to fit back on :bang: Don't blame him/her though, was bloomin' hard getting the new one on!
- Replaced clutch cable (with excellent help from here)
- Fitted a nice loud airhorn, noddy-horn no more!
- FIATForum stickers, wooo!

Plans for the future are money dependant (insurance mainly). Peter has plenty of ideas for me :D

Immediate next plan is most likely going to involve a Supersprint system including sports cat. Am liking the idea of a PGT braking system change too, insurance don't want anything for uprated brakes :D

:D Reminds me of what both my Sei Abarths looked like from standard then the serious modding fun begins (y) it looks very tidy and the red is also a nice colour, although red is abit normal for me! GSR stuff looks tasty too!

Take a look at my picture gallery of ideas for your Sei if you like, she is a beauty :D

Regards

Adam

@OZ Seicento: Sub sounds pretty nice! Gives a good clean beat, but still pondering over taking it out, it takes up so much space and it weighs quite alot. If I can get some sort of beefier speakers in the doorpods to compliment the tweeting going on up front (Like you've done), then I shouldn't need the sub anymore.

@EvilJa: Took a look at the gallery, very nice motor there! I'm just going to go and have a look for your thread on here, unless you don't have one lol, see everything you've done!

Thanks all for the comments.

you ran your car around with oil flush in the engine for a whole tank.

are you mad:eek: you are mean't to 'idle' it for around 20mins, 15mins fast idle on it, THATS IT!!!
as it thins the oil right down to basically piswhwater.

I would say your engine DID NOT enjoy that:eek:

hope you didn't pay much for it, as its sound'd like it hasn't been loved in a while (typical of cars that have been bought thru garages, i/e traded in at dealership for something, then moved onto auctions, then to a used car dealers where it can sit for upto a year).
there is this mk2/b 1.3jtd punto near me, with low milage, but its been there over 8month now, and at same price, so I am not interested in the slightest at it (oil has curdled and it pulls to the right horribly (seizing wheel bearing I wouldimagine), and its starting to smell inside from damp and various leaks and general lack of use.:(

Thats what I thought! Now you try and tell Peter that :D. He stuck Forte in his engine for more than a tank lol, and revved it hard for the period it was in. Five years on and the engine is still fine. It certainly cured my blow-by though (sticky rings), we'll see what happens eh!

Must have been standing for a while as the discs were rusted quite bad. The dealer got it taken into a garage for an inspection (for all the cars they sell), they picked up on that and fitted brand new discs and pads (no extra charge), also paid me the money to get a rear wiper motor from a scrappy (as that wasn't working). The damn thing packed in again the other day though, still need to take it apart and see whats what.

col if you take it upto about 60-70 on a nice good bit of road (with plenty of space and no other cars around).

then just stand on that pedal as hard as you like, does it WANT to brake in a straight line, or does it feel like the back end is gonna rise up, and front end digging into the tarmac? and it will also want to go sideways and spin/roll out:)

just the guy that had had my punto before me had driven it well enough, but never felt the need to use the brakes!!
3 out of 4 rear drum cyl's were seized solid:eek:
only the front brakes did anything!!! It was horrendous when trying to stop! (swear if the tarmac was grippy enough I could have done a stoppy!(y) ).

also with rear wiper motor's you've got to grease em good:)

Hi Have you cured the fuel smell and does it only happen when there is over half a tank of fuel in it?if it does take it strait to you local fiat dealer because they are on yet another recall, My sister has a 1999 't'reg seicento sporting and hers is booked in the garage for a new fuel tank(3rd one) as her old one has a split on the seam were the 2 parts of the tank are joined:eek: But be careful my local fiat dealer tryed to fob my sister off saying it had to go back to scotland and we live in birmingham.

go to your local fiat dealer and get them to check the tank or  you could could easly do it yourself by feeling around the middle of the tank(best at the front of the tank) and smelling your fingers for petrol:).

i had this same problem with petrol, had the tank replaced etc, but max i would get to a full tank is about 200 miles??

when did you last have a service?

A service and new filters may help improve MPG

Hmm, well if it helps any diagnosis', when I fill the tank, the needle will shoot down to around halfway pretty quick. I'd say within 35-45 miles the gauge will be reading just over half. Once it reaches half however the needle moves far slower at a 'normal' pace. When I first got the car I thought I had bought a real gas guzzler, then noticed this trend. I fill the car to half tank nowadays.

Yes some guages are a bit slower/quicker than others i think, in my sei, the gague moves really slowly then when it hits a quarter it basically drops like no tomorrow! Did you get round to checking the recall fuel tank with your vin number??

Really liking the GSR additions under the bonnet.

Think I spoke to you at ace if it is you, a few months ago not long after you picked her up if so then really coming on nicely.

J

I don't think the guage is linear on a Sei tbh, i'm sure mine is NOT leaking at all and the top half of tank always lasts longer than the bottom half and as JR says the last bit just seems to disappear. Although you really have to actually stop on a level surface to tell how much is left.. You gotta love the way the needle will go form half full to empty when tanking it round a roundabout

Yeah LOL. Thing is, every opinion I hear on here says that the needle drops fastest after halfway. However mine drops like a rock before halfway, with he fuel smell. I was in the local FIAT dealer for ages today and didn't remember to ask about the recall. I'll remember for next time I'm in.

Currently trying to sort a heater blower issue. It's either the switch or the resistor blocks. Anyhoo, both have been ordered ready for me to try (thanks Nick). I noticed today that the fan now works on low speed when the switch is all the way anticlockwise, should this setting not be off?
