Cheers mate (y) The ST's a good car there's no doubting that, but the VXR has so much more character and it's livelier on the roads, much more fun to drive IMO, and a lot more exclusive than the Ford.

Will they do it in the Saloon model, much better looking.
I think there's too much window on that Mazda no matter what model it's in, it just looks wrong to me, may just be a bad picture though.

You'd think manufacturers would be looking to produce fast cars with one eye on the future of the oil situation instead of keeping up with the Jones'. Vauxhall included. I wanna see some cars that have a lot of power and alternate fuels etc.

i think you chose right in the end and your modding it nicely :D got to say i havent seen one single vxr around our end yet theres a silver 3 dr with the 19's goin about but think thats an sri? seen a couple st's when out and about one being in the orange and it looked stunning but after working on a 98 ford escort all today which had litterally rottted away in front of the owners eyes im not sure id ever buy a ford unless it was an rs500

im waiting for the new corsa more my size i have trouble parking my arosa, god knows what id be like parking an astra:eek:

hope it lasts for you and you get good service, from what ive heard vauxhall arent that bad the VAG group is crap so i wont use em again

and IMO that mazda doesnt look a patch on the vxr or the ST theyve got a long way to go there to snatch sales away from these two

Corsa will need to be something very good since they havnt built a decent handling one yet.

If you want a car that size with power. Cars to look at are the fiesta ST, Clio 172/182 or a Mini. There are some older ones as well but in that market and class there the pick of the bunch with the clio probably being the best on price performance and close in terms of handling the minis and the st both handle very well though. And the mini is quicker well some versions are but most people wouldnt spend £20k+ on that kind of car.

I will wait and see the corsa though it doesnt look THAT bad from the initial shots i have seen but i dont think it looks that great and i dont think it will be as good as the competitors. Especially the 207gti and clio 197. And the C2 might be getting the same 1.6 litre turbo unit with 170-200bhp that the 207gti is getting which power to weight wise and handling wise would make it the pick of the bunch especially when you take into account price as well.

Cheers mate.
The service so far has been outstanding so I have no reason to not be hopeful for it to continue :)
There are silver vxr,s but if it was one you'd know it right away with the centre exhaust and the bigger bumpers, it also sits a bit lower ;)

RS500 eh :yum: lovely :D

The 3 door Astra are very coupe like and the rear visibility is almost none existent, but they do have big wing mirrors to make up for that :D I always flip my mirrors down so I can see the wheels when parking against a kerb, it's a lot safer than just guessing where the kerb is and damaging the wheels :)

Well talking of outstanding service.....

I got the remap done the other day and as mentioned had a dodgey plug, so yesterday I went to my dealers with the plugs and they took a copy of the receipt for the new irridium plugs and the rolling road. Got a call back 30 minutes ago and there's a cheque in the post to cover all costs. :worship: :worship: :worship: Why oh why did I never buy a Vauxhall before

all costs for the new plugs, remap & RR

what nice figure did you get from the RR m8?
not the remap, just the RR and plugs, well over a hundred quid though.

RR was OK but the VXR heats up too much on the rollers and the regulator cuts in and limits the power so unless it's out on the road you can't get a proper figure of the BHP, everyones had the same problem so far, even with massive fans set up to try to emulate the open road, it's just not enough.
Before the map it was accurate apart from the dodgey plugs so was running a little lower than it should at 237bhp with the Milltek exhaust. After the map and the plugs were changed it flew. Gees mate I was shocked, holds the power right up to 7500 revs and roars like crazy, most beautiful sound I've ever heard :D But sadly the RR could not capture that power.
In the real world it should be around 280-290 and it certainly feels like it when compared to the original. It's like comparing my Stilo to the Astra when I first got it, the difference is astounding and I just wanna drive it all the time. The Sport button is like a massive shot of nitrous, if I'm in third doing about 40 and I press it......whooosh, pinned into the seat, now I'm going back out, sorry :D

Have you ever ridden a motorbike, sounds very similar. Open her up and hang on for dear life.....:D
lol, yes it is quite a similar feeling mate, that feeling that your in control but at the mercy of the beast beneath :D

Was that power an ATW figure or at the fly figure?

Cause 237 at the wheels isnt too bad taking into account transmission loss etc. that would give you around about 272 at the fly or there abouts taking a 15% transmission loss into account. 290 at the wheels though is getting close to maximum that should be put to a front wheel drive daily driver as anymore starts screwing up the handling even more and the VXR isnt an awful handling car but it already suffers from torque steer to begin with near the limits it'd be an absolute handful with more i would imagine

237 at the wheels before a remap, your avin a laugh aint you Wozza :D

Manufacturers use the flywheel figure but that's with the engine removed so all RR figures are estimated flywheel figures taking into acount that you'd lose 10-15% by the time the power got to the wheels.

Like I said I have no proper figures after the map, people in the know are estimating the 280-290 flywheel figure. So take 10-15% off that figure and you'd have the at the wheel figure. Only way to get a true power gain comparison on a mapped VXR at this time is to put it up against a standard one on the open road and see what happens. Believe me, it's a big difference, some guys and gals have done just that and left standard ones for dead. Even vxr's fitted with the Milltek and no remap are leaving standard ones behind.

Hang on... you forgot to mention something about Renault in your post

237 at the wheels might have been possible if you had a great engine in there lol. And nope no Renault comment :p

 What from standard ? that's never gonna happen..

after a map and zorst then yes possibly.

The Astra 2.0L Turbo is a fantastic engine, it's bullet proof from what I have been told.

imagine a 4WD VXR. thats what they need to release next, something to give a scooby or evo a run for its money on B roads.
