:worship:Recently my Fiat Stilo power steering failed while parking car. it is still drivable, but my arms aint nothing like Arnie.... i have recently scanned the car for errors and have come up with code 3477, which was explained to me as a possible sensor fault within the colunm or the shaft. trouble is i dont know what part to buy? i've been on BBA-reman but can only find the Power steering motor unit.. if anyone knows what i should do or can advise better than i know please help....

Klive

I removed the Bat, didnt clear the fault, so must be more technical... i really need to get this sorted as i'm trying to sell the car....

have you checked the fuses? it should be 70amp F2 and F24 10amp in the engine bay, near the battery (just under the cover).

other items to check,
*is the battery good- some cars when they get low voltage put things, like steering in safe mode to conserve power
*the wiring connection of the steering column

Have recently checked the fuses, and they are all fine... As MUch as i'm avoiding footing a massive bill, seems im gna have to payout...

Can anyone confirm the error code :worship:3477? if so where exactly is the sensor located? and what part will need to be changed? Shaft?:bang: Electric Motor? Or Column?:bang:

Can anyone recommend a supplier of parts at a fraction of the cost....we all know fiats prices????

Thanks for the Link John... managed to find a recon Steering column 164.00 (y)and Fiat Main Dealer fit for 150.00.... now that beats the original Fiat price of 778.00....:slayer:i know its not fitted and working yet, but thanks to you all for the help.... Owned my Stilo for 2 and a half years, since then i've had to spend 480.00 on a new clutch, 200.00 on brakes and a messed up exhaust silencer/back box from KWIK FIT (Which Messed up even more) which had to be redone by Main Dealer 250.00... and now the Steering...

all i wanted to do was sell the thing.... just my luck... it's a really nice drive when its working properly, think fiat should have looked at possible faults before releasing this model....

You need to find yourself a fiat / alfa independant specialist garage. It will be much cheaper than the dealer and they will have the Examiner diagnostic system, same as a dealer. Never take a car that is out of warranty to a dealer. You are just throwing money away if you do that.

ouch!

clutch cost me £120 to replace and brakes, i replaced them 3 times on the front and a set on the back at a cost of £20 a chuck for pads.

exhaust cost me £25 to weld in a new flexi piece to stop it blowing.

and i thought i had a dear run on consumables
