Thats it I have had enough of there always something going wrong with my Bravo...its a shame really cos the Bravo is the sexist shape out on the road followed closely by an Alfa147..very very tempted in a low milage 2000 Volvo S40 SE ,I know its a box but its a reliable box with a sweet black leather interior and a very torquey 2Litre engine....damn you and your electrics FIAT....aaaaaaaaaaarrgggggggghhhh

Re: Re: My Bravo is really getting on my t*ts..

Having spent £600 in six months on repairs, I'm bailing out too. It's not sexy when it keeps breaking

Re: how'd they sort the air bag light out

Had to change the SRS resistor and get the ECU reset..its cost me €180.....:(

I'm crying as I write this

have a Bravo for 6 months changed the following

all 4 shocks
gearbox
clutch
both drives
drop links on both sides
camshaft + lobes
eletric windows don't work
clock won't work on the radio
exhaust manifold

I could of bought a new car for what I spent on it, but I wouldn't change it for the world, still pull's the chicks

Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

Pete, sorta makes your moaning about your foglights look a bit silly. :)

Re: I'm crying as I write this

Phil...when you bought this Bravo you might as well have dropped your pants, bent yourself over the bonnet and let your spannerman have his wicked way with your tradesman's...jasus mate...talk about unlucky.. ;-')

Re: Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

I does mate...have FIAT electrics always been pants?

Re: Re: Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

Never had trouble with mine. If you want bad electrics try ford.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

Had a Ford Escort before my Bravo and never had trouble with the electrics...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

My alfa 156 has had

New Turbo
New Air Flow Sensor
New Aux Drive Belt
New Aux Tensioner
2 x new guide pully's
18 hours labour

About £2200 - and that is this year so far

Oh and on Tuesday I needed a new battery.

My Bravo HGT cost me bugger all in 2 1/2 years except for regular servicing and neither has the Punto and the Barchetta has only had the brakes cleaned out. So there aint bugger all wrong with Fiats!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

According to this man, there's lots wrong with Fiats.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

There's generally lots of faults on cars that have been out of production for 3 years with the majority of them being 5 years or more old. If you want a reliable car that doesn't cost you bucks when it goes wrong buy some cheap and nasty Korean shite that comes with 3 years free servicing and warranty cos no-one who buys a car with their heart wants one.

A Fiat has always been a car that you either buy with your heart cos you love 'em or with your head because they are generally 25-30% cheaper than their main brand rivals. When I bought my HGT I really didn't want any other make but when you consider that it only cost 60% of what I would have paid for the equivelent Golf and 75% of the equivelent Astra the "Grin-per-Pound" factor starts to make a lot of sense.

In the 18 months I've had her only the battery and rear wiper have needed replacing. Considering it's now 5 years old and done 48K I consider that to be astounding reliability.

Remember that second hand Fiats are bought by people with little money and as such there's a lot that are not taken care of as well as they should be. Try owning an old golf for a few services and faults and see how your pocket feels.

@Peter Ireland, unlucky mate but theres dogs of every type of car out there.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

No faults whatsover with the Mazda 323ZXi I bought, which at the time had been out of production for 3 years.

I think you'll find, (whether you like it or not - and my guess is that you will not like it) that Italian cars (particularly Alfa and Fiat) have an apalling reputation when it comes to reliability.

You can now of course tell me that your machinery is A1+ and always will be.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

U got it right RR.... fiat and alfa do have a bad REPUTATION but until uve actually owned one like ureself...thats when u find out that there not anywhere near as bad as the french cars!!

Ive just had this discussion with my mates!! All there reviews they read say fiats are unreliable...but funnily enough im the only one whose owned 2 and disagree with them!!

Its all in the reputation from the 80's...if they had kept the bravo going instead of the stilo then fiat would be doing so much better.!!

Just my opinons i dont want to cause any friction on the site.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I'm crying as I write this

Well done Dan. Nice to see a very sensible, level-headed response that is not based on the fact that you have 1 bad Fiat and slag them all. You are totally right in that this is all a throwback from 10-20 years ago when under "Rust" in the dictionary it said "See Fiat/Alf/Lancia". With the launch of the MK1 Punto and the Bravo/a Fiat realised that using recycled washing-machine steel wasn't going to work anymore if they wanted to increase sales in the wetter climates of northern Europe and sthey galvanised and sill-injected all fo 'em. Think about it, how many rusty Puntos or Bravos do you see?

Having been one of those who did suffer through the mentioned years (127s, 128s, Unos) I feel justified in saying that as I have paid my dues. Still miss my Arancio Racing Orange 127 1050 Sport though. Fun car.

Shabash!
