Panda (Classic) My 4x4 - The Muddy Pics!

Introduction

Hey everyone as I've only just joined I thought I'd post some more pictures to show you lovely lot what we're all about up here in the bleak North.

Both me and my mate have Pandas, mine's the '87 and his the '89, both Italian Racing Grey.

As I've previously said, although we put the Pandas through their paces we take good care of the old lasses because we want the fun to keep coming.

I hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoy making them! :D

Some of these pics are from a while ago, I'll get some new ones up soon :)
Happy new-un everyone!

New years day oils and filter change. My gearbox oil was nice a clear as far as mayonnaise was concerned after the dunking at the latest Yorkshire weekend...

I might well be seeing something that isn't there, but the oil looks a bit grey in the photos, compared to fresh - maybe a little bit of water had got in there?

Does the change feel any different with fresh oil in? - I'm starting to think the boxes are quite sensitive to oil level and freshness..

Yes there was a very slight tinge of grey left on the top after draining, which I put down to moisture. I have had this before when I've changed my box oil and to be honest worse than this. For once I do have some decent gaiters on mine, but it is clearly still getting some damp in somewhere. From the depth of water I drove through as well that day, I honestly was suprised to see it as it was. The gear selection is unchanged.

A fun ride out this morning into the Dales to put up some more barn owl boxes, plenty of the white stuff about...

A small update before the month ends...!

Sooooo there may have been a problem related to the flood water as featured in the most recent off road weekend in Yorkshire; my thrust bearing has broken. The result of this is that the clutch pedal is now jammed on the floor of the car. It was getting rough for a while after the event, making more noise when out of gear ticking over. I am looking forward to getting it out for further investigation!

I've also achieved rear light failure again, I would say that black wire disease has lengthened down the original loom. This means I will have to extend my previous rewire in order to create a healthy fix.

I've also decided it's time to join GLASS (Green Lanes Association). This is a nationwide limited corporation that promotes safe use of the countryside. It comes with many benefits including extensive mapping of the country's lanes and byways. I think this will benefit us when organising future events especially.

GLASS looks tempting to join, if you join them, I think I'll join the Trail Riders Fellowship and we can compare notes.

On the thrust bearing - I'm sure this can be done without removing the box from the car. It's a bit of a faff, of course, but I swapped an input shaft seal once this way.

- Or alternatively this could be the excuse to finally drop that sedici valvole in, whilst you've got your overalls on..?

Did you see the Bravo on eBay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201504777086?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It is with great regret that I bring some sad news to the forum this evening, Andy has always been fighting a battle with what we all hate and today, the rust has won. I'm afraid it is the end of the road (or more rightly greenlane) for Hadrian:(

Andy was aware of some holes in Hadrians sills and bought him down to me for sorting and then a full underseal, unfortunately a thorough inspection has revealed some very serious corrosion in pretty much all the usual Panda spots. Hadrian has been heavily patched several times before, and the corrosion is now so advanced that more patching is no longer viable, unfortunately a proper repair is also out of the question as so much work would be required it just does not make financial sense.

A few photos of the worse bits, not sure if anyone can make sense of them but gives an idea of what we are dealing with.

A lot of this is hidden by the wheel arch liners which I think is the reason Hadrian has been on the road for as long as he has, there were also a few patches that were pulled off by hand due to being attached with silicone, never a good thing!

Some good will come from all this though, Andy has certainly not given up on Pandas and a plan for a replacement is being formulated, ultimately we will end up a stronger, better Hadrian mk2!
