Hi there,
Having some problems with my 06 mjet sporting, Ive looked around the forum and seen similar issues but not quite as strange as mine.
So a few times in the past week on the dual carriage way when I get into 5th and 6th (mainly 6th) the oil temp gauge flies up and the red light comes on and I get a warning on the screen which I cant quite make out because my attentions on the road/gauge, a bit of steady driving involving dropping the speed to around 50 it cools down again, Im assuming it could be a number of mechanical faults but strangely sometimes shifting down to 5th from 6th is all it takes for the temperate gauge to drop straight back to normal, its so frustrating :(

So if anybody has any knowledge or experience I could really use it as The next step is probably to get in touch with the dealer

Thanks

Tom

I had a Rover 214 with a similar issue. Check water coolant levels; also, check oil dipstick; might be a head gasket issue (hope not). Please let us know when you resolve the issue.

Check the coolant level first, a low level can allow random pockets of air in the system that cause temp fluctuations.

Other possible causes are head gasket issues, or a failing water pump (either partial seizure which will eventually cause cambelt failure, or the plastic impeller is loose on it's shaft and not circulating the coolant).

Yeah sorry didn't mean oil temp my bad :)
Well had some problems this morning as my heaters wouldnt heat up so the alarm bells rang so I checked the coolant today and the tank was pretty much empty!
I also saw a lot of water seepage on the seal of a part thats bolted onto the right hand side of the inlet manifold?
So I thought with the leak its was best to get it in at the garage being as its still under warranty although they say 'some things might not be covered so i might have to pay a diagnosis charge' so if anybody knows if this falls under a warranty voidable category let me know!
But aside from that before I drove it to the dealership I filled the coolant tank with water just above minimum and the heaters produced warm air so I think it was a step in the right direction, just hope for the best!
Its so hard loving the car so much but having so many problems, ive had most of the common faults repaired (door locks, strut tops, gearbox)

Thanks a lot for your replys guys

Tom
