Warranty Direct says: “An example of just how much Fiat has worked on reliability over the past decade, the Stilo has an incidence rate of just 11 annual faults per 100 cars, with the most likely fault among axle and suspension failure, which isn’t cheap to fix.”

Very cheap for the owners who are having it fixed by warranty direct :D

Snapped springs anyone? Not seen axle problems before... anyone?
 
He's on something (Fiat's payroll?). I went from Coupe to Stilo to Barchetta. The Stilo must be the most unreliable car I've had in 20 years driving. Mostly the damned computer constantly reporting non-existant faults and the tracking. My 1.4 went through tyres every 10k miles (inner rims going bald) despite attention from every specialist in 40 miles range.

Final straw was the aircon packing up and Fiat billing €800 to change 2 washers and regas. I refused to pay and the car stayed in the dealer despite various threats of legal action. Finance company were very sympathetic and I was able to cancel the finance agreement after various discussions with their legal dept.

Said Fiat dealer went bust last year..probably with the silver horror still in the workshop.
 
Ive hardly had any major issues with it, its had some electrical stuff done under warranty and its been fantastic ever since.
It went past its MOT couple of days ago easily, guy said my car was in great nick:D

I can think of plenty more relaible cars than the stilo though.

I wonder if i can convince my dad to buy one now.. :slayer:
 
Can't say it surprises me that much - but only if you class the false error messages as NON breakdowns - which they nearly always are.

After 6 years:
Battery = original
All discs = original
Exhaust = original
Clutch = original

Non routine servicing faults:
1 x Rear brake light
1 x Dipped beam
3 x Heater plugs
Split overboost tubing (twice)
 
Our 1.8 sailed through its MOT for the second year in a row with no problems. I needed to replace the exhaust before hand, but thats just normal wear and tear. It's been a very reliable car for the wife, she drives it daily doing lots of short journeys.

My Abarth's been fine too so far. All I've done it put a new battery on it as the old one was on its last legs (original one). I've got some new front disks and pads waiting to go in and also some coilovers, but I'm only doing that cause I want to rather than needing to.
 
Speaking as I find, Mrs Ffoxy's 1.2 has been a pleasure to own. 5 years old now, 40,000 miles. No serious problems just starts, goes, gets serviced, never gets thrashed. Used as a shopping car, takes wifey to work every day, taxi for the kids, takes our junk up the local tip. Never failed to start, never let us down. I fixed the airbags and we had 2 new front springs but hey....

1.2 Stilo is much maligned.... and makes an excellent cheap car if its not been neglected or abused.
 
Unless I go to the dealer, RGZ's been great. Just the all to frequent engine warning fault, which hopefully the new battery has solved. Still on original tyres at the back for example, though that may be down to my low mileage over the past few years :) Doesn't go through tonnes of fuel, the 6 speed gearbox makes motorway driving relaxed and the 16v engine, though down on power actually copes pretty well with the size of the car.

However, if I were asked the question "Would you buy another?" I'd have to say no. I'm almost certainly going for something a few years older than the Stilo for my next car. And no, it's not a Bravo :p
 
The only problem I've had in 20 months of ownership is a stuck rear brake caliper, which was apparently a recall matter that ought to have been dealt with by the dealership when they serviced and MOTd it.

It sailed through the German Tüv yesterday - much tougher than the MOT! - without a problem.

I am one very happy Stilo owner, overall!

I don't think you'll find it ever was a recall issue :chin:

Strikes me more likely someone did a bodge job when replacing rear pads (which might just have been the dealer anyway ;))
 
I think it perhaps wasn't an automatic recall, but one of those things that was flagged up? I could be talking through my hat, of course.

I am still seething about the twonk who drilled holes into my bootlid to screw the numberplate on!
