Why are you comparing plane MPG to car MPG? They're two very different vehicles for very different tasks!!

because people was moaning about leaving engines running for 5 minutes killing the planet, but they dont care when they fly.

don't forget all the power used to run an airport and get all the people, food and stuff there, don't need any of that if you go butlins instead of another country for holidayEvans Halshaw Kia Stourbridge

Started the car this morning and left it ticking over so it would be warm when I put the kids in it. My youngest tripped up and hit his face on the corner of the garage rear door as we were walking out. Quite a deep cut to his cheek. As my missus is a nurse I rushed him back in doors to find his mothers medical bag while phoning the school with the other hand. Finally an hour and a half had passed and my youngest had fell asleep and I realised the car was still ticking over.

2 miles?! For the good of your kids health please make them walk or cycle, I don't know how old they are admittedly but even if you accompany them on the bike that's gotta be better, don't you think? I used to live 5 miles from school and normally walked it, cycled if the weather was bad to save time (though had a very wet arse by the time I got there :p).

My youngest is 2 years old and is regularly over taken by snails when walking anywhere. A 2 mile walk to his elder brother's(3 years old) nursery would take days, probabely weeks.

In the summer I occassionally do the school run on my mountain bike. If there's someone at home to watch my youngest I take my 3 year old to nursery using an InSTEP Quick N' EZ Bike Trailer attched to my Mongoose Tyax. It will carry 2 children but I prefer to only put one in it for the school run. I put them both in it when we go to the local park less than a mile away.

Edit
My eldest son gets plenty of exercise riding his bikes, his younger brother has now progressed from his electric quad to his elder brothers 50cc quad and by the end of this year he'll be riding his big brothers 110cc mini chopper.

If everyone went to Butlins, the power consumption would go up somewhat!

bring back ff camping trips then, no power

i not saying everyone should go, just the ones who reckon we are all killing the planet leaving engine running for 5 minutes. i wonder if they are the same people who pull out in front of me because they cant see through their steamed up windows that they haven't waited to clear with car ticking over before they drive :chin:

I agree with shadey. My little-un is 4 and is also about 2 miles away from home for the most part I take her to nursery in the car.

I did pick her up on foot today though as the weather was nice (until we were half way home and it monsooned on us!).

The primary school she's going to is closer so will be walking!

I don't think anyone is proposing to run around fining people for idling their engines, but for people who park up outside schools, taxis, delivery drivers etc who sit in the same place every day waiting for 20mins or whatever with their engines on DO need to be fined imo.

Its called freedom , stop worrying what others do and focus on your own business. Fact is thou ! we all just live with the illusion of freedom ! Those of you who understand as long as you comply with this system your just a slave will understand what I mean.

Where does it stop ! til 51% of the voting population control even the thoughts they dont like of the 41% who have lost all faith in a corrupt system !!! :slayer:

viva la revolucio
