Hi Guys

i had asked around before buying a cd changer if they were difficult to fit and got the majority response that they were simple as it was just a case of plugging it into the back of the head unit. This info is basically correct although what everyone failed to mention was that there are 2 small wires (one red-battery and one brown-ground) that split off from the main lead. There is nothing in the guide, that came with the changer, that explains where these go or how to fix them, and ive also looked at a pdf file
http://fe0wap32.bosch.de/pdf/7607700006_EA.pdf
which turned out to give the same info. If you look at this youll see in the bottom right the installation diagram and the two wires in question.

I have the basic head unit (mid) as fitted by fiat and the cd changer is a cdc a03 (which is the newer version of the a08)

can anyone help me

hmm that is a straneg one. would of thought they would of said on the instructions about them wires. anyways i wonder why they are even there??? as the pins on teh back of the stereo were you conect it up to should be providing it with 12v, ground and switchable 12v feeds according to the fiat streo diagram sticker wich you should find on stuck on to teh top of your fiat radio

okay is your changer outputing its signal to the head unit via an fm modulater?im just wondering if your stereo has a connection for a changer unit then these connections could be superfluous or you have the wrong cable ,if you dont have a connection for a changer and your changer is outputting via the aerial connection then this is why your cable/changer requires a live/ground connection.if it was a "normal" changer/headunit then yes it would just have been one cable
hope this helpsB)

Thanks guys, so what youre saying is these two wires may be there just in case. I think i'll give blaupunkt a call on monday to make sure. The head unit does have the connection for the changer (theyre even colour coded for idiots like me) but its just those two wires that have confused the issue. If it all works out i'll ost the results just in case someone else has the same problem in the future

hi guys, attempting my first image post so it could go horribly wrong

retrieve-image.asp

here are a selection of images of the troublesome cable.

Image 1 shows the rear of the head unit as it appears now without the cd chganger attatched. The blue socket/plug is removed and the cd changer one inserted in its place (image 5) As a side issue does anyone know what the circled metal plate is for.

Image 2 shows the layout/diagram found on top of the head unit. If anyone knows what some of the trickier abbreviations are could you post. One interesting thing (to a degree) is that the diagram shows that where the blue socket would be there is already a ground/earth (symbol after AF-R) at least i think it is.

This leads (no pun) us to image 3 and shows the cd changer cable with the two extra wires. The brown one is ground/earth which is why i pointed it out on the diagram. Why would it need another ground/earth when there is already one on the blue socket.

Image 4 is the other end of the cd changer cable (the end that plugs into the cd changer) The thing to note here is that the end with the blue plug has 7 wires plus the brown and red seperate wires, so thats er.......9. The other end of the cable with the black plug has 10. Just one more thing to confuse. Oh, and it attatches to a plug on the cd changer that also has 9 wires.

Image 5 and 6 show the cd changer alone attatched to the rear of the head unit. Note that the blue plug has an empty space (middle left) that has a symbol like a large U a smaller B and a + underneath. If this is a power symbol that would explain a lot.

So now the question, where do the two seperate wires go, and if they are to share a space with another wire, (a) how do i get the other wire out and (b) how do i get them both back in.

thanks
