my panda(s) got broken into yesterday.
so, they broke into the 4x4 with a screwdiver or something because the lock still works, i found the car open, they have smashed all the dash around the ignition, jammed a screwdriver in and tried to start it, didnt make it work, pulled out the plugs from behind the ignition, but left the plug intact. dont know why they didnt try and break the plug end of and touch wires together? anyway, i am left with a bollockexed ignition.
they broke into the 750 too, but it is a wreck so dont know why.

my question, can i pull the ignition (just the key bit) from the 750 and put it in the 4x4, then r connect the plugs etc. because i think quite luckly they didnt mash anything to badly, the wires seem intact, but the plug bit was attached to some round plastic things that went into the ignition to the right of the key.

sorry, i realise this is badly described, when i get home i'll havea look at the haynes manual. but i just need to know if the 750 is compatable or if there are different key barrels. oh and if i have to drill it out because someone sdaid something to me about bolts with heads that snap off for security.

hope this all makes vague sense, im very tired!

bloody scally kids! (n)

Little F******!!!!

Yes, you can just replace the LOCK BARREL -IMPORTANT!!!!!! you do need the original key to get it out (which is why, if you lose ALL the keys - you have to buy a complete new ignition steering column assembly).
You will see a little sprung flick switch which you need to engage with a screw driver to remove the barrel with the key in it.

The plastic geared teeth thing ***** be careful with this ! If you twist it too far you have to dissassemble it to get it working again - A RIGHT PAIN!!!! but you can twist it manually to turn on the ignition, starter motor etc. So you don't need a key for it ........ KEEP IT HIDDEN !!!!!!

Oh and forget trying to drill it out - waste of time!!! THey are actually bloody secure which is why you still have your Panda I expect!!!
The Steering column ignition assembly - to remove you have to hammer the de-headed bolts with a screwdriver (there's 2 of them) and replace with a NEW steering column ignition assembly from the Fiat dealer...

Sorry I don't know the answer for you, but I'm gutted for you at the vandalism. :(
I sometimes hear people say things like, "It won't get stolen/vandalised, it's not worth anything". I always say that it doesn't matter, some people are such scum that they'll rob/vandalise anything.

This happened to me again last night only this time it was my colour that locks have been damaged in i will report later iam sick with it.Ppl say ahhh but its an old car as if iam asking for it butthis does not make it right damage is damage and costs money and time to put right.

yes!
i just manged to start the panda at last.
i had to smash the ignition casing and contents off the 750, i treid to drill out the bolts but kept slipping and when i tried to force it the cask aluminium just smashed., then i plugged it into the 4x4, and it started!. then i remembered it had steering lock on, so i drilled out the ignition and hammered a screwdriver in there to get the internals out.

i might try and make some switch somewhere to break the ignition circuit, as another security devise. anyone done that before?

im just so happy my car is back on the road! plus, my best friend just bought one, exactly the same, and tomorrow i'm going to his so we can drive around and mend out pandas (both our favourite cars in the whole world).
:) :) :)

I would split the ign wire on the coil, the car will then turn over but will not spark, not sure what the colour is and my panda is away just now (should be back soon) so using a multi-meter use the +ve side run a wire from both cut ends into the car and attatch to a very small two way switch that can be easilly hidden. When disconnected Via the switch no +ve current will activate the coil so as said no spark. a switch from maplins etc will only be a couple of £ including a couple of meters of wire (try to use the same grade as the wiring on the coil)

Just to add it wouldn't be that much harder to also fit a start button to the starter & key ign circuit like they have in the big sports cars. Use to make them for banger racing
