Modifying my dash (First stage)

As most of you know i now have a PC installed in my car with a 7.2" touchscreen monitor...

I have had the screen mounted just in front of the gearstick since Christmas, but i have now bit the bullet and a have started to modify my dash to fit it in nicely...

Where it was...

I have split the dash in two harves and i want to mount the screen in the middle, while moving the heater matrix downwards...

I havent done that much yet, but this is where i am now...

I have shaped a center section to house the screen out of MDF, i am really happy with the finished shape

As you can see from this top pic, the MDF is about 1mm smaller than the original console, this is to allow for the thickness of the material i will use to cover it...(The same material as my interior)

Thats gonna look mega mint!! What will happen Daz re the air vent. Will the air get to the screen and overheat it or can u stop it??

The plan is to keep the vents where they are and just move the actual controls down (This is why i had to split the center console in half ), so i am hoping heat wont be a problem.

Daz, u r a genius, thats exactly what i want to know how to do, been thinking bout it for ages but how if you lower the controls, how exactly are you going to mount it etc?
ifs urs turns out ok would you consider doing another one? (for me and my screen!)

Mounting it???...to be honest i havent got a clue, i will have to sort out that when i get to it...I don't think that far ahead...lol

All the shaping/smoothing is now finished, the hole cut out and the screen installed...

Just gotta try and get the damn thing into the car now...

I will post some more pics, when my batteries have recharged...

@ Lee - As it is a full PC, you can display anything you want, but currently i am using Media-Car, it something like this...

From this i can play MP3's, Music Vids (I currently have 100+ on my hard-drive ), DVD's and GPS when i get my GPS mouse.

I am currently working on a personalised skin, which will suit me more than the one above...

@ Alan - ME!...I was good at art, as you can see...lol

The monitor i got off E-bay...

The software is free

The CPU is inside a standard (small) PC...

sounds weird with media car, does it load automatically or do you need to open it, just wondering before i run it on my laptop and screw it all up.
