dash light warning

im new to fiat ownership yesterday as i pulled into work i got a yellow engine shaped light appear on my dash and a message to check my engine the car runs fine but i dont want to do any harm can anybody throw any light on the problem pls oh forgot to mention its a 2008 1.9 multijet diesel thank steve

It can be multiple problems, a diagnostic check is needed.
