Hello peeps,

After going through all the troubles working on the 55sx. Yesterday I got the change to buy a mk2 sporting with a broken gearbox for 1000 euro. Went to look at it and the engine looked and sounded fine, condition of the body isn't mint, but its a 1.2 16v sporting from 2000. For 9 years it wasn't bad I thought, so I took the plunge.

The gearbox makes crunching and whining sounds and wont go into six. I reckon getting it refurbed will be quite expensive, so thats most likely out of the question.

Now for the gearbox, I have done some searching on this forum and others and it appears it would be easiest and cheapest to get a second hand box. The car currently has a 6-speed fitted, but I don't care much for it so it will be replaced by a 5-speed because they are more available.

Now from what I understand I can use any box from a mk2 1.2 either 8v or 16v. But for example the Fiat Bravo also came with the same 1.2 16v engine, does that mean that I could also get a bravo gearbox or will that have different mounting all together? Im just asking because the local scrappy has some bravo's but no mk2 puntos.
