but... wen it came to the cruch (prive joke.. ash will understand) you must really love the bravo cos if anythign happens to her, you go and fix her!! the corsa was just pushed away :( poor poor corsa!!

so ash.. it was you that made the misstake by not seeing the sensor...

oh well thats ok then, for a min i thought it was all our faults it wasn't a straight fit ;)

Tom.. don't get ur coat just yet... i may need a better explanation to why the fuel needle never stays still while driving other than " the magnetic field produced by the subs in the boot pulls the needle up & down"

:) another donny classic moment ;)

Not sad at all, quite admirable actually, but to say that this club is full of people who know nothing about the mechanics of their cars is a bit OTT.

Some of us don't have the luxury of time or space to get to grips with the inner workings of their vehicles (me), some of us could strip a Bravo to pieces and put it all back together again (Tom).

It's a very sweeping (and wholly inaccurate) statement to make and it's hardly a pre-requisite of a car club to be a qualified expert who can quote part numbers, techniques and detailed workings of components verbatim. In fact, one of the main reasons for car clubs is to help those who DON'T have that knowledge, and be helpful and not condescending.

Sorry to go off on one, but I can imagine a lot of people getting a bit offended at that.

Plus I'm still writhing in agony with my toothache and I tend to get carried away ;)

just like to add....

ash.. we all know ur good with ur bravo.. you've done so much to ur car & helped out many others too...

we just let you find out the hard stuff 1st.. then you can tell us what we should and shouldn't do when we all have too!

so... i get the idea from this... it's better to find a Mk1 engine than a Mk2 engine to replace a Mk1 engine.....

Cool!!!!! well sourced :)

just a question tho.. couldn't you have just put a 20v turbo in the same time this has taken you???? :p

hehe if he doesnt answer the 20v question i will soon, lol. ill also answer the q on how to clear up the mess when its blown up on ur driveway

the only thing halting the 20vt conversion is cash flow :( as i need about another two grand to be able to do it without the car being off the road for months. im trying to scrape some money together to sort out my student loan at the min tho :(

@rob no offence intended but i think we should have some better way of organising what everyone learns in some kind of database. a bravo wikipedia sort of thing because lets face it the search on this forun isnt the best on any day!!!

its just a bit anoying when i am trying to ask something technical and someone starts joking around. i know its only a laugh but if im asking a tech q its because i need tech info not a joke ;)

i would love it if there was a tech only section on the forum that way if we needed somethong tech wise we coud just set the search to only search the tech part of the forum to wade out all of the chat stuff about events etc that the search normally throws up.

I agree we need a better organised forum....

just used the search to find summit.. and it was pointless just endless amounts of dribble............

I know we don't wanna be like other car forums... not mentioning any other fiat based forums here... but just 1 or 2 extra forums which are just on precise topics might be a worth while idea??

Im sure we could open another network54 forum page and link it into this site fairly easly???

maybe the time has come to evolve just a little :)

IMO thats an ok idea in general but not for us.

I've been around quite a long time now (getting on for 3 years at the end of this year) and I like the simplicity of this forum compared to "other" fiat forums and local "crooz" sites. It brings people closer, the posts are "just there" so everyone tends to notice them aswell of a handful of other reasons.
Saying that we are not technically minded is a little if not very harsh. thats like me saying do you know the ins and outs of photoshop and then belittling you because you don't.
As Rob said, its not necessarily the case that we're not interested in the inner workings. more that we don't have the time or the space to do so.

Dunno if its just me but 'boo seems to be a right b*tchfest at the moment and its really starting to p*ss me off.
can't do anything or say something without getting someones back up!

re

as above, i've been coming on here, must be 5 years or so! and its the forum i stick to most even though i don't drive my brava now, just because i like the simplicity,

not loads of different categories to look through, no wondering which one you should post your question under, no having to register to view, etc etc.

I have to agree with dan about the forum being a bitch fest!
Ive only been on it about a year and a half, but since then, questions that are asked seem to be answered with a sarcastic "yes" or "no", or people just take the mick because we apprantley should already know the answer to such an easy question, which results in that thread turning into a massive bitching session!

well if the search function was more helpfull.......

Look the suggestion wasn't to have loads of topics, headings etc... just 1 extra network54 forum dedicated to technical questions.

Yes it's great the mass bundle of nonsense BUT how frustraiting is it when you ask a tech question and b4 you know it.. it's on the 2nd page cos 50 people have added a thread about their cats's birthday or they just washed their bravo for the 1st time ever!! (sorry jay ;))

It's not a suggestion to change BOO... just evolve it a little to accomidate the more serious side to now owning a car that could be 11 years old!!

4 years ago, they prob didn't need quicte som much stuff replacing.. but as time goes on, members are needing to change bits over and common questions are going to be asked about it.

Dan & rhyan, you both virge on kinda slating ash & now myself for having an idea about our forum... we both might not come that far up the pecking order, but we do surely get a say???

I've put it too the big man, so hopefully he can give us a decision.... and what ever he chooses thats should be ok (as long as he makes a tech forum).

oh.. and about the bitching stuf.. i think its cos we haven't seen eachother much this year so far... by the end of last year there was alot of love going round cos we'd all got hot, wet & muddy together!!

what happened to this amazing events organiser??? I fancy another BOO event!!! I've been to 4 or 5 this year already.... I want more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fair enough but I'm merely defending myself here, I'm not a thick **** at the end of the day and don't like being told that I am merely because I don't know the ins and outs of my car. I know enough about my car to be able to do what I need, if I need to know anhthing else I ask on here or read the manual. if everyone knew everything garages etc would be out of business...

events are coming up in august and Lee was sorting a karting meet out for the end of july I believe.

just remember, this forum cost money to run (i.e. without the adverts) so wimmy etc would have to pay again for an ad-free forum...

its true. this forum is gr8, just cos it doesnt have 35 threads for every section of your car "left bump strip technical etc" maybe if someone figures another gr8 bit of tech out just post it on the modding or repair guide section. surely that sect could never be too thorough?

yup.. and depending on traffic is summit like $4-$8 a month.... I know i looked into it befor pushing the suggestion.

No1's saying ur thick dan... I know just enough to.. I open the door, get in, close the door, start the engine and turn up the radio (kinda a must when owning a diesel).

anything more complicated than that, I go pay some other monkey to get dirty!

I know nothing about michanics, doesn't interest me in the slightest... couldn't care less about a crank sharft sensor or wot size nut holds another bit on.. my god there are far more important things to remember like kates birthday than a brvo engine bit!

but dan.. you have to remember there are some people who's heads aren't full of other interesting stuff, so need to find summit to fill it with... hence y they remember nut sizes :)

Dan on this 1 occasion it's ok to stand back and say "yup... im not a sad bugger... thank god!!"

"i like to cover new ground just to push the wealth of available knowledge forward"
Maybe a touch arrogant dont you think your hardly re-inventing the wheel its just an engine swap, ok you've had to change a couple of things and fair play to you but come on!!
justin

Justin... stop provoking the lion!!

just let the comment lie... and nod and agree and say "yes ash" :)

yes ash :)

but justin...remember your engine swap!!
you had mk1 hlx, and had to swap for mk2 hlx engine.. some things were different....some were not!!

nearly installed a fiat barechta(spelling) engine instead of mk2 1.8 :) bloody VVT ..lol

ade

yeah bloody delivered the wrong engine but spotted before it went anywhere near the car luckily (shame tho i wouldnt have worked 130 bhp) :)

If it seemed like i was slating ash, then i dint mean it to sound that way, ash has given me plenty of advice and is very helpful with things, im just saying, certain people treat you like a thick **** if you ask a question that they would regard as a question a 2 year old would know, i feel some people could be more helpful, as i say, that is definately not aimed at ash!
