Ok started on Friday night at 7pm with Andy sx and my m8 Jordan engine was out and on the ground B4 10pm :)

Went and picked up the MK2 Engine for my MK1 car Saturday thanks to Andy's little car :)

We spent Sunday then stripping down the mk1 engine sensors and inlet manifold to go on the mk2 block. Big Big Ball Ache as the mk1 has a camshaft position sensor and the MK 2 doesn't. that meant stripping down half the engine to get the camshaft out and fit the bloody sensor in behind the pulleys :(

And today im planning to drop it in the car and get it all running :)

oh and to show Andy sx's dedication to helping me we eat our dinner on the drive :) (didn't miss the footie though lol)

Haha, oh.. it's you Andy? haha ! ;)

Re: ENGINE CHANGE PROGRES PICTS

har bloody har.... atleast i can afford a proper hair cut rather than a 2 quid buzz over with the clippers... or did you get your own to make it cheaper long term???

on a more serious note, managed 400 miles out of a tank, was well impressed, esp considering the jurney home was weighed down by a 1600 engine..:) had a 2.8 bravo for a few hours :)

Re: ENGINE CHANGE PROGRES PICTS

Who said anything about your haircut, you puff?

;)

Ironically, I did buy some clippers this weekend.. LOL.

400 miles from a tank out of a 2.8 Bravo, that's some going... ;)

Not bad at all since you've got a Punto box.

nice one mate :) good to know that when mine eventually blows up the mk2 will fit :) lol

its not without its major headaches John.. we spent all sunday overcoming one prolem really, and by the time we had got it all resolved and were happy with it, it was time to pack up really. it is achievable, just need to be patient. as Ash has found out there are a couple more differences than we realised firstly, but hes worked damn hard to get it where it is now.

Andy_sx

sorry to say andy.. but wot do you look like!!!

No wonder you weren't alowed in the house to eat.. u'd scare his sister away!

I really hope no1 saw u looking like that!!

Atleast we can all print that piccy off to keep the kids away from the fire at christmas!!! lol

well all i can say ash is... shouldn't have broke it in the 1st place.. then you wouldn't need to replace it!!

should have bought a diesel ;)

its been a ball ache but i like to cover new ground just to push the wealth of available knowledge forward as i feel this club is very un techicanally minded.

i have never known an owners club that has so many members who know so little about their cars inner workings.

back in the day when i had a corsa the guys in the club could list between them, every single difference between every engine and part on all the models. all i see on boo over and over, is what wheels fit and how low can i go on 17's lol

thats only because its questions that dont nessasserily need answering atm tho.
an engine change is a lot easier and more common place on corsa's etc, ie tubby lumps.

if engine changes were easier on the brav' format, they'd be loads of questions asked like that.

just my 2p

well the s*it is gonna hit the fan soon cos a lot of bravos are getting older. and i can safely say a corsa is 1000 times more reliable than a brovo!!! it just doesnt drive as well and thats coming out of the mouth of one of the biggest bravo lovers ever lol.

the difference is ash.. id sooner be driving a bravo than a corsa... plus i have more going on in my head than find out wot size bolt hold the dip stick on... on a corsa the dipstick is behind the steering wheel!

Another point is.. if ya engine does fail under normal use and standard tuning.. well it's a bravo.. just go buy another, cos it's bound to be worn out if the engine has gone wrong!!!

Ash... did u actually ask any1 if the engines were the same.. or did u just jump in with both feet and buy a Mk2 engine???

Surely for the sake of ease you'd go buy a Mk1 engine to replace the engine in your Mk1!!!

If the JTD 105 goes wrong.. you don't go buy a JTD 100 to replace it... yes they are both 1.9JTD engines, both producing the same 100bhp... but the ECU from the 105 wont run the 100.....

common ash, don't start getting shirty cos you went and bought a different engine and expected it to fit straight in!!! To be honnest, you were very lucky there was only 1 difference!!!!!

is that about 3p's worth?? ;)

It helps that the Vaux have more comonality between the models and engines. A bit like Ford. Also the far larger availability of parts.

None of the bravo engines share the same ECU make/model, each engine is mechanically different, 4 different types of gear linkage, 2 types of front suspension, at least 3 different outer CV joints....

Well, in the Book Of Ash, we all seem to be not worthy of his mechanical greatness.

Best get ya coat, Tom ;)

exactly my point tom

oh and tommy i did check the differences between the mk1 and mk2 and all the mechanical bits are the same even down to the cast numbers on the cam shaft and cam pullys but the cam shaft sensor managed to evade my eye bucause it was hidden behind a cam pully lol.

oh and dont knock the corsa you know how much abuse that little thing took the bravo has lived a very easy life in comparison (and i mean very easy. the corsa was driven to the limiter daily unlike the bavo lol)

lol rob. tom actually knows his stuff (i enjoy our little chats :))i was just referring to the majority. everyone wants to modify but i like to know how and why every little bit is like it is. call me sad but i find it interesting.
