Panda (Classic) Mk1 Panda 4x4 farm find.

Introduction

Introducing our Mk1 4x4 bought late last year.

Some of you saw it briefly on ebay, but I was quick off the mark with this one and made the owner a buy it now offer he could not refuse, then picked it up the next day.........

As you can see from the last pic. it has a sunroof in an unusual position...

The Guy I bought it from had rescued it from a farmer who had stored it for the last ten years. When it was last in use they used to remove the sunroof glass and the back seat so that they could stand up in it and go shooting. The eBay listing made no mention of this.

Looking around the rest of it once I was home it checked out pretty well.....

The sills all seem solid, any rust is largely cosmetic. It starts and drives ok, in fact I don't think it would take much to put an mot on it!

Some of you have seen it in the flesh as it was on the Fiat Motor Club GB's stand at the restoration show in March as a 'barn find' exhibit.

It enjoyed the show so much it was last to leave :p........

In my opinion a Mk1 4x4 is pretty much top of the tree for a Panda collector so it is most definitely a keeper. I will probably put it through an mot test, fix what's needed and run it a little as it is until I decide how far to take a restoration. One thing's for sure, the sunroof must go, probably swap it for twin fabric ones. :D
What a great save, well done!!

That sunroof was probably it's salvation, especially them taking it on and off for when they needed it. Most farmers I know would have just cut a big section of the roof out with a tin opener and left it at that...and ultimately to the elements...

Also, CP was originally a Halifax issue, although by 1985/1986 it was being issued by the Huddersfield office...So a West Yorkshire Fiat dealer is probably were it 'hit the road'...

Thanks for all the comments Guys.

I can't see me living with the roof as it is though, I know it's part of it's history but I think a photo or two of how it used to look will have to suffice for the story telling. The Mk1's had twin canvass sunnies and I think that's the way to go. :D(y)

It will look great with twin canvas rooves...fairly easy to do as well, I'd have thought. I assume you have a suitable roof to swap over...

Out of curiosity, do any of the known MK1 survivors have the twin canvas set-up??

Yes I think it will be a fairly straightforward job. I have a roof cut from a Panda I had to scrap a while ago, thought it would come in useful one day, little did I know how soon that day would come ;).

I can't think of any Mk1's here with twin sunnies so may be the only one!
