My mate's just rung me to say he can't get his car out of gear/change gear with the engine running - 'what's wrong?'. ('98 Punto 1.2 60S)

Obviously clutch - gears engage & disengage with engine off. Clutch feels a bit heavier than normal, but operating arm moves OK when pedal depressed. I have a nagging idea that they suffer from clutch fork failure though - Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks, Dave

Not really, what they suffer from is the release bearing chewing through the clutch cover. If this is left it can then damage the fork. The forks themselves don't have any inherent weakness. Change clutch and it should be ok. If the fork is slightly burred up you can usualy file it down with a small file.
