Hi! I recently bought a '98 1.2 16v Sporting project car. Bought it as a non-runner, with low compression on cylinder no. 2 and 3. So I couldn't drive the car, but noticed that the clutch pedal is way too firm. So I thought its just a cable, went ahead, and bought a new one, installed it, but that didn't fix it. What could be the issue? The car has a 6 speed box installed.

I fixed the cylinder head issue, now i have driven the car a little. The clutch is noticeably better. I think its a tired pressure plate, I will probably do a clutch job on it in the future.

I had a mobile mechanic friend who was tearing his hair out over a Peugeot he had fitted three new clutch cables and every time he pressed the clutch the plastic yoke at the end of the new cables broke.
I sprayed oil through the release arm hole in bell housing and assisted the operation a few times with another new cable so it worked.
However the cause of the problem was the owner resting his foot on the pedal and overtime it had caused a wear ridge in the fingers of the clutch pressure plate diaphragm so the long term cure was a new clutch assembly and some driving instructions for the owner.;)
