Technical Mk 11 8v valve clearances

Thinking about doing mine soon, due at 24k miles and she's on 44k so more than ready

Has anyone here any idea if these engines loose valve clearance over miles (seat/valve wear) or do they go the other way and get bigger as you'd expect?

Biggest area of wear is likely to be on the seats. Having said that, they don't usually vary very much unless there's an issue or the valves are recut. Easiest to do it whenever you replace a cam belt.

I was going to check mine when it gets a bit warmer. Haynes makes adjusting the clearances sound a bit fiddly. How difficult is it in reality?

It's fiddly. And you need to be methodical. Much easier to do when you change the belt and tensioner, but it's hardly difficult.

I'll let you know as i'm hoping to do mine over Xmas (very festive!).

I dont think its that bad a job though, guessing a magnet would be really handy for removing the shims once the follower/s has been levered out of the way.
