I have never needed the red key in 4 years of owning the bravo. I too had only 1 key but had another made by a locksmith for £25. High street shop Timpsons will do one or any good locksmith
hi there, your car will be on the key code 2 system, so you will not need a red key, my local fiat dealer charged £120 for the a key immobaliser chip and the remote cental locking
you will need proof the car is yours ie log book and the origional first registration number if you have a private plate
fiat have told me that to have a key cut it will cost me £1000+ to have the ECU and lock's replaced, I only have 1 key and am concered that if i loose this one i will be in trouble can anyone suggest anything ?
Ignore Fiat, you can get the blue key cut at most locksmiths, fortunately my friend owns a locksmith in Preston Lancs and the blue keys cost me £3 a time i have 3/4 spares dotted around the house....and have fitted a Cobra alarm and remote central locking system... happy days...
To program new uncut keys by yourself you need the master !
But if a locksmith does it he cuts the key, and using a small computer (inserts new and old key) clones the code to the new key.
Thank you all for you advice
will they keys i get cut work with the Immobiliser?
also can you tell me i need to change the battery on the car will this affect the Immobiliser
1. The new cut key should contain the key code needed to turn off the immobilizer like the original - so after the key is cut, try it so you can make a reclamation if it ain't working right.
2. just change the battery -nothing happens with the immobilizer.
As Sven said any Blue Key that is cut is a clone of your blue key...
When you insert the key to ingnition and turn you will see a Key Code light illuminate this should go out after a few seconds providing the new cut keys do this you will be fine...
But get a remote central locking and alarm system fitted...
I had my Cobra (its nothing fancy just alarm and RCL) fitted for £200 and i was probably ripped off as seems the case when i first bought the car... Boy how i have learnt so much in 4yrs..
Trust me pal, if you have any problems with the car, do not take it to a garage they'll have your hands off... Ask a polite question on here and we all help...
I have now built up enough knowledge of Brav's to do almost everything myself, all the members on here are very helpful and will give the best advice known to them...
Look out for Sven he's a fountain of knowledge but most members if not all carry out all servicing themselves and are equally as useful...
THANK GOD FOR FIAT BOO - think i need to renew my £5 membership.
Hi all , thanks for all the help, just an update when in to Timpsons and they can cut me a key but cant programme it so back to having just one key still, not really sure were to go from here!!! wouldnt be a problem but the blue clip for the keyring has now split so cant even keep it safe that way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
try a different locksmith,i went to a local locksmiths(owned by a friend of a friend)and he charged me £5 to cut and code the key.
they put ur key in a computer then ur new key in after and it copies(clones)the key.
