my key to my 2008 Fiat Ducato 2 series motorhome is missing the housing and battery. Can i buy a key and just take the housing and battery out of it and put it in my key? would it work?

Also because i can’t use the remote buttons as i don’t have the battery and housing. I only use the key to manually open it …would that cause the motorhome demobiliser not to be able to start it?

I am not completely sure what part you still have but assume you have the key ?? If so it should work if you open the door and turn ignition / starter with the key. The transponder chip is the same as in a non remote key [like on a credit card] i.e. it does not require power. The housing and battery in the remote just provide the open/closing function not the starting one.
A new housing and battery with your gubbings inside should work the locking and starting functions.

Like @rayc I am struggling to fully understand the current state of your key. Assuming that you still have the pcb attached to your key? If you replace the missing housing with battery compartment, using your original pcb, then all should work as before. If however you do not have the original pcb with immobiliser chip attached, then you will not be able to start the vehicle, unless either a matching coded chip has been hidden close to the ignition lock, or the immobiliser function has been deleted/disabled.

If you require further help, the you will have to be more precise in describing the current situation. How are you starting the engine without a code chip somewhere?

A photo of your key would help to understand what you have and what you're missing :)
I was thinking that there was a restriction on new members posting photos, until 5 posts have been made, but perhaps I am confusing with another forum?

As already mentioned in entry #3, the original pcb the with immobilizer chip attached needs to be transferred to the new housing. This is how the pcb looks for my 2018 Ducato, with 3 push-buttons. My guess is that the 2008 version has similarities to this. The immobilizer chip is circled in red. As far as I know, it is just attached to the pcb and works independent of the battery and other components on the pcb.
