Hi all

I have a miss fire when cold, start up.
this does go when hot.
I have not lost any oil or water but it could still be a head gasket on its way out?
also it does not seem to get to normal temp on the gauge.
i do have the heater on and its that time of year when its colder.

Could it be something simple like plugs and leads?

oh its a 1200cc 8v engine with 90 thousand on the clock.

top end does seem to be noiser then it used to be when cold.
would this be oil related?

thanks

could be a sticky valve possibly confirmed by fact you say top end noisy
have you ever changed the oil and filter?
might be a good idea to do a vacuum test see whats happening on the gauge hot and cold

Misfiring when cold i can almost 100% say HT leads, these when damp arc like a biatch
So when its cold and dark outside (get a family member to start the engine with the airbox removed to inspect where the HT's are arcing from

The Car not warming up is either - Sticking thermostat or your blowing all your hot air out before the engine has warmed up
Remember let the engine warm before demanding hot air

And Noisey top head - can be oil, its colder its more viscous and doesn't flow easily till its warmed up, so the head does tend to tap a little bit

oil was done about 5 months ago, after replacing the sump.
also it runs fine at a mid rev range but put foot down when its cold and it miss fires again.

thanks guys i try the leads first see if that cures anything.
this sort of problem used to happen in my minis and you could garentee it would be leads plugs or rotor arm in the dizzy.
it was just a wonder if things were different with a more modern car.
or if there was a known problem at head gasket.
