Fuelcat that's the one I've got, in the wire cage. You just drop it in the tank with a bit of fishing line on it so you don't lose it then tie it to your filler cap. You have to have a straight pipe to your tank or it won't go in.
Sludge, If you're getting 46mpg on a long run I think that's an improvement on what most are getting. The average seems to be about the low 40's.

I have yet to do a proper run. Saturday I did a 54 mile run (27 each way) which was dual carriageway, M25 and a few miles down a country lane. The other 300-odd miles was all around town stuff, bits and pieces, 2 miles here, 3 miles there.

OK, stumbled across this today. Can it really be so simple to increase your mpg by chucking in a capful of the wife's nail polish remover?
Thing is, who's got the spare cash to do this experiment - if it completely ruins your engine?
However, if it really does work...
And is it leaded petrol, unleaded? Does it also work on diesels?

Hello! I'm new from here and I'm interested for fuel consumption at 1,3 multijet Doblo Panorama. We calculate in liters/100 km but it helps me if you tell me in you way mpg. My car, Fiat Doblo Panorama Dynamic 1,3 multijet will arrive in 1 week.

Well, I've just done aother tankful (the yellow light came on but the needle hadn't even hit the red).
350 miles maily motorway & 70 miles around town. Cruising the motorway at a respectable 70mph , 5th gear & still plenty under the pedal to overtake when needed, whole family on board plus cases, dog & dog crate.
fuel economy is less than last time when that was nearly all around town - at 40mpg .
Perhaps I need to hold her back on the superslab?
I guess the 1.9 jtd pushing a box along at 70 hits a heck of a lot of wind resistance - but she wanted the speed, I really didn't feel like we were going so fast & there was plenty of poke still in there so I could easilly have hit the ton.

On a flat road at 30mph in 3rd gear with a very light throttle setting my inst. consumption was showing 75 to 80 mpg! Of course it still only averages 40 something .

Yes, it's the 120bhp.
Don't know what the 1.3 will do but it'll be alot better than mine .

Mine's the 1.9 jtd with 105 horses.
Scary thing is, I had a beemer sat next to me at a roundabout, he was itching to get in front of me but dobbin left him standing. Had to ease off the juice to let him catch up so he couldn't overtake OR pull in behind:devil: .

(probably explains why I can't improve on 40mpg)
The 1.9 diesel is really tooooooo powerful for the old tin can but comes into its own when fully laden or towing and, of course, chucking a turbo under the bonnet makes things worse - I just can't help myself when it comes to seeing off the boyracers:slayer: .

Now I know why the rev counter goes up so high.

Over the years I've seen cars being put through their paces & the fuel consumption was done on a rolling road. A few years ago I saw the same test being done with the engine/gearbox on a bench with a computer controlling functions. so all consumption figures for that engine were based on converting the rpm to a speed based on the gear selected. The techies said that they would then reduce the amount based on known values for drag (cd).

All well and good but it's not just the coefficient of drag that needs to be taken into consideration, there's also friction between road/tyres, wheels/axles, axles, diffs, diffs, gearbox as well as the friction from the non-driven wheels.

Even testing the motor on a rolling road is somewhat false as this can never take into account the constant braking/accellerating/gear changing you go through around town.

I read a thread somewhere on here that said the dobbin's fuel consumption improves after 20k (or something like that) - obviously as the parts in the engine wear/bed in/slacken off?

As my dobbin is a recent purchase with 11k on the clock, It had a full service before I took delivery & I keep an eye on my tyre pressures, I'm taking my current fuel consumption as a baseline - something to improve on ? and taking official figures with a pinch of salt.

If techy data says 59.19 mpg I reckon you'd be lucky to get close to that, although with extremely careful driving & no extra weight yo'll probably get somewhere near.

Other thing is, when they do the fuel economy tests, the engine is constantly running so it is at optimum running temp for the maximum time. I think biggest fuel consumption occurs within the first 10 - 15 mins of starting the engine...the only time my engine is running really.

Hi, have you got your Panorama ? It is also called Panorama where I come from. Is yours the 5 or 7 seater ? What is the fuel consumption like in km/litre?

Yes I recived my Doblo and now I have 8000 km (5000 miles) in just one mounth and one week. Average consumption was 47.05 mpg (6l/100km). 5 gear is too short and at 100 km/h it is 2600 rpm. In this case it is not good fuel economy. I hope after 20.000 km consumption to decrease.
From now I'm pleased from my Doblo and I hope to say this after 4 years.

I have recently replaced my '03 1.9 JTD SX with a new 1.9 (105) dynamic. I know that the best fuel consumption isn't achieved until there are a few thousand miles on the clock but the consumption of the new vehicle needs to improve by over 40% to even equal the old vehicle. I can't see that level of improvement being achieved no matter how many miles I drive so I booked it in with the dealers but "no fault found".

I have spoken to one other person who has owned both vehicles and his experience is similar.

Is there anybody out there who has owned both? How does your fuel consumption compare?
